"I have a complaint on Comfort Master at 1645 Hwy. B Poplar Bluff, MO 63901. This past spring, I had signed a contract with them to service my air conditioner in the spring and my gas fireplace in the fall. I never heard from them to set up an appointment to service the fireplace so I called them. They told me that was my gas fireplace was not part of the contract. The service tech that signed me up said it was. I asked them for a refund on the fall portion since it was not going to be honored. They started laughing at me and said I'm not getting anything back. They told me I was screwed when I signed the contract in which they screwed me out of $67.50. Also in August of this year, I had to call them to come out and check my air conditioner. They came for out for 3 minutes, did absolutely nothing but tell me it was blowing cold air and charged me a service call of $59.00. Last year, my brother had the same contract problem with them except they never came out to check his heat but they sent him a bill for the following years contract. These people are taking advantage of customers and need to reported before they screw someone else out of money and end up hurt."

Water Heaters questions, answered by experts

Every city and state will have its own set of installation codes and laws. Some won’t require you to obtain a permit before replacing your water heater, though we recommend you do, regardless of the local codes. On the other hand, some cities and states might require secondary permits for plumbing and electrical work related to the installation. Check with a local water heater installation company and local building codes to confirm which permits are required and what the specific laws are.

Most hot water heater manufacturers recommend replacing the anode rod about once every three to five years. Anode rods sacrifice themselves by collecting iron, limestone, and other minerals that would otherwise corrode your hot water heater tank. This abuse wears them out long before your water heater does. Check the rod when you remove it and replace it if more than 50% of the metal has been consumed. Check the rod more frequently if you have hard water or use a water softener.

How long a water heater lasts depends on the type. A conventional tanked water heater has an average lifespan of eight to 12 years. Tankless models typically last a little longer, anywhere from 10 to 15 years. Regular maintenance can help you extend the life of your water heater and keep operating costs in check.

You have more options for water heaters than ever before. The best one for your home depends on your hot water usage and budget. Some of the more common types of water heaters are the conventional gas heater, a heat pump water heater, or a tankless heater for smaller homes or those with less water demands. Some uncommon types are solar and point-of-use systems. Some homes may have a combination of two units, such as a large heat pump heater and a backup point-of-use system.

Going from a tank to a tankless water heater is one of the most effective ways to lower your utility bills. The switch also frees up more space and ensures a consistent hot water supply, as the water is heated on an as-needed basis. It costs between $5,400 and $7,400 to install a new tankless water heater. Most installation companies will also help dispose of your old water tank.
