Customers say: Quality work

"Mike and Mason replaced and extended decks on the front and back of my house, replaced all the windows and doors, and replaced most of the plywood/siding on the house - had some rot from previous storms of which I was unaware. Mike kept me informed every step of the way and was very easy to work with. Mason is a very capable young man and a hard worker. Everything was done in a timely manner -despite the unexpected damage uncovered - and they completely cleaned inside and out once finished. All the work was outstanding and looks amazing. Any future jobs I have, I will be using Colley Construction."

"Needed demolition of home following fire. David was very responsive and completed job quickly and cleared the land after. His workers were great also! They even found a few valuables in the rubbish from the fire. Would definitely hire again!"

"This project expanded greatly from the original quote. Levi worked with us and all extra projects were very fairly quoted. There have been delays and there is still a finish job to be completed. The delays really have not been the fault of the contractor. I would hire him again."

Land Clearing Services questions, answered by experts

A land survey can take anywhere from a few hours to a month or more, depending on the size of the property, the type of survey, the property’s accessibility and topography, and the availability of historical property records. A simple boundary survey to determine a fence line can be completed in a day while surveying 50 acres of undeveloped woodlands may take weeks or longer.

Yes, new home construction will always require building permits, no matter where you live. In most cases, you’ll need a general construction permit, along with plumbing and electrical permits for the utility lines in your home. Depending on where you live, you’ll likely find that you also need permits for things like connection to a sewage system or installing exterior components, like decks, driveways, patios, and curb cutouts. Leave navigating the permits required for new home construction to a professional to ensure your home is built legally and safely.

This is fairly rare, but sometimes the local government or a group like a historical society will label a tree as a landmark, or historical item. These designations almost always come with a small, on-site plaque for identification, but you should also be able to look up protected trees in your area on a city website or similar list. If the tree in question is a landmark, call your local government and ask how to proceed before making any plans.

It is almost always necessary to hire a land surveyor near you to ensure your fence sits on the right side of the property line. Mistaking the shape of your property can lead to fines and costly changes if you have to move or adjust the privacy fence—not to mention some surly looks from your neighbor. We recommend jumpstarting your fence planning in the spring to ensure there is plenty of time to map out your plan before construction season.

A few different types of land surveys can help determine certain features and boundaries of your property. These include:

  • Boundary surveys describe the actual borders of a property. These are generally required when trying to get construction permits issued.

  • Location surveys provide much of the same information as a boundary survey but also include in-depth information about any improvements made to your property.

  • Mortgage location surveys are usually required by lenders and title companies before financing or offering an insurance policy.

  • Site-planning surveys are done before applying for building permits and can be issued before any major home improvements.

  • Topographic surveys provide a formal map of land elevations. It can also describe the location and size of natural features and any land improvements.
