"We had them build a wheelchair ramp on the end of our porch. They were very careful to make sure the ramp would work for my wheelchair. They also made sure they cleaned everything up when the project was done."

"This PRO is a PRO! They provided Excellent and Detailed work on my deck. Always here when they said they would be. Also, they had great suggestions as to color selection and different styles I hadn't even thought of. You won't go wrong hiring Exterior Maintenance KC. (P.S. "Shane is detailed and has a strong work ethic. He communicates very well to ensure he has a clear understanding of the job expectations. He is also well organized and keeps the work area clean and tidy at all times. In addition, his bid was reasonable and he touched bases with me frequently to ensure that we stayed within my budget. I'm very pleased with the results and could not be happier. Would GLADLY do business with him again!"

"I couldn’t be happier with the cedar steps Imagine Restoration installed in my back garden. They did a great job removing the broken, rotting deck and replaced it with a custom-built set of steps that fit the space perfectly. They even accommodated wider treads for added safety, which made a real difference. They helped me get through the HOA approval with detailed plans, delivered the highest quality craftsmanship, and stuck to a budget that felt more than fair. The end result is beautiful, practical, and built to last. I’d gladly recommend them to anyone looking for reliable, high-quality work."

Small jobs welcome

"I used them a year ago to paint my house. They did such an outstanding job I used them to paint 3500 sq. Ft. Interior. We had 25 ft. Tall walls and curved staircases. Steve not only painted, but also offered to change lightbulbs that we couldnâ  t get too. He was very trustworthy, on time, and worked a full day. Highly recommend."

"He contacted me very promptly and came to look at the project. He explained to me what the problem was and stated he did not have the proper special equipment to make the repair. He recommended a company that he felt sure would be able to do the work."

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Composite decking boards aren't your only options for building a deck. There are several other types of materials for decks, including wood and aluminum decking. Wood decking comes in many different wood species, offering natural beauty and classy timelessness to your yard. Aluminum is a lightweight, water-resistant, and low-maintenance material that is also non-slip.

The best base materials for a ground-level or floating deck are typically gravel and crushed stone (also known as landscaping rocks). These options are inexpensive, provide excellent drainage, prevent weeds, and help minimize moisture buildup, which reduces shifting and rotting. For added stability and to evenly distribute the weight, you can use concrete deck blocks or pavers. While more expensive, concrete blocks and pavers offer a sturdier base than gravel or crushed stone alone.

As with patios, there are many types of deck choices to choose from to add personalization to your home. Some common deck options include:

  • Attached decks are anchored to the home and include simple ground-level options or multi-level structures with stairways and separate landings.

  • Detached island decks are not attached to the home; they’re a freestanding structure in the yard.

  • Wraparound decks connect the back of the house with at least one other side and often are built with railings for safety.

  • Multi-level decks connect your deck through varying levels of elevation, featuring landings that are attached to stairs.

PVC decking might be long-lasting, but this synthetic material lacks the natural aesthetic or sustainability of wood decking. If you want to match your decking to your new garden furniture or just freshen up the faded surface, it’s not usually possible to paint PVC decking. When comparing PVC to composite decking, PVC is pricier and more prone to warping in hot regions.

Yes, deck pier blocks can be used as an alternative to traditional deck footings, especially for smaller or low-to-the-ground decks. Unlike poured concrete and buried post footings, deck blocks do not require digging or pouring. However, their use is dependent on local building codes. Some areas, particularly those prone to high winds, earthquakes, or hurricanes, may not permit the use of deck pier blocks. It is essential to consult your local building codes before choosing them for your deck project.
