I am currently a member of the carpenter's union in St. Louis, MO. I have 6 years of experience working in the union including the flat roofers union. I specialized in TPO waterproofing for 5 years and have gained a broad range of skills in the carpentry industry. Most of my experience is in commercial construction such as installing wall paneling, door frames, windows and window blinds, concrete, and much more. Recently, I have been working with drywall and metal studs, along with exterior home siding. In addition to construction work, I am able to complete miscellaneous tasks like cutting wood, landscaping, power washing, and deep-cleaning homes and offices. I can also tint windows if interested. On average, professionally applied residential window tinting can last anywhere from five to 25 years. The quality of the film material and installation help to determine if film will stay. In addition, gently cleaning windows with film can increase their longevity. Harsh and abrasive cleaners, alcohol-based and ammonia-based cleaners, and sharp scraping tools and scrubbers can all prematurely destroy the film's surface. Use a microfiber towel and gentle cleaning solutions to get rid of dirt and residue to prolong a tint's lifespan.

Do not use Windex or any glass cleaner when applying window film. These products contain ammonia, which will damage the film. Instead, use the application solution provided with the installation kit. If there is no solution, make your own using 1 teaspoon of baby shampoo and a gallon of bottled water.

Tinting your windows can be more energy-efficient, allowing your home to better block out the sun’s heat in warmer months and retain heat in the cooler months. It also blocks harmful UV rays, keeping your family and pets safe from sun damage. Tinting windows keeps your furniture color from fading in the sun, as well.

Window tinting also makes it more difficult for passersby to see in your windows, giving you better privacy. Some window films and tinted glass options even help your windows better withstand trauma and avoid cracking from any attempted break-ins or bad weather.

Some frosted glass sprays can handle the outdoors, but most of them aren't built for it. Sprays made for exterior use will say so clearly on the label. Anything marked “interior use only” can't hold up against rain, UV exposure, or changing temperatures without peeling, fading, or yellowing. Outdoor-rated sprays are typically more durable, but even then, proper prep and application matter. Before spraying anything outside, double-check the product instructions. If it doesn’t specifically mention exterior use, skip it.
