"Today's visit was for my annual electrical inspection on the whole house rewire Mr. Sparkey did two years ago. Smoke detecters, surge protector and numerous outlets and toggle switches check. He gave me a written evealuation; nothing pressing but things on the horizon. AND HE CLEANED MY CEILING FANS! All for a VERY reasonable $99.00."

"Great job installing 3 ceiling fans. A fourth ceiling fan needed to be replaced on a sloping ceiling. The electrician was unable to to this successfully. Was very reasonably priced, was personable and professional."

Small jobs welcome

"Mr. Patterson is awesome! He was very thorough about understanding EXACTLY what we wanted installed, how we wanted it to look, how we wanted it wired, etc. If he ran into a situation he wasn't 100% positive what we wanted he would stop and ask then explain what that would look like. After he completed the requested job at a very fair price we asked him if we could pay him to replace 2 light fixtures in 2 bedrooms with ceiling fans we provided and he didn't bat an eye and said yes of course. He was punctual, respectful of our home, and great at updating us on the completion date (the job was a 3 day job to do solo). We actually have him scheduled to come back soon to install an extra receptacle in another part of our home we liked him so much. I had gotten 4 other quotes for the job he did and we made the right decision, start with Henry if you need electrical work done... you won't be sorry!"

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

Ceiling fans require periodic cleaning of blades to avoid dust accumulation, checking screws and connections for firmness, and occasional lubrication for components, keeping the fan running smoothly and quietly over time.

Fan power is measured by CFM, or cubic feet per minute. For every 1,000 feet of square footage in your attic, you need a minimum of 700 CFM. Steeper roofs may need larger fans or about 840 CFM.  You can figure the size of attic fan you need by multiplying the square footage of your attic floor by 0.7. (multiply by 1.2 for a steep roof and 1.15 for a dark roof). That number is the CFM required for your fan to run efficiently.

To convert a ceiling fan to wireless, you’ll need to install a canopy module to access the lighting and fan controls. Many options are available, all of which help you control specific elements of your ceiling fan, so you have plenty of choices depending on your needs.

Hiring an electrician to install a new ceiling fan may be the best course of action. Installing a ceiling fan requires basic electrical and mechanical knowledge. It also requires holding it up with one hand and in an awkward position, making the installation even more difficult. If you’re uncomfortable with these circumstances, your best bet is to hire a professional.

Most ceiling fans have a lifespan of anywhere from five to 15 years or 10 years on average. Just how long your ceiling fan lasts depends on the quality of the parts, how much it’s used, and how well you maintain it. A fan with a weak motor that runs on the medium setting nonstop is likely to have a shorter lifespan compared to a fan with a powerful motor that runs on the slowest setting for air circulation.
