"Under cabinet light install. The technician was great. He confirmed that the job would be out of my price range and gave me an alternate solution. I felt that he was honest and wasn't pushy."

"Hired “Power Up” to refit our electrical panel and install an outside connecting plug to run a new portable electric generator. Jeff came out and spent time to evaluate and discuss our needs. He was consultative throughout the whole process. Lisa was responsible for arranging installation and paperwork and was very responsive to inquiries as well as reaching out to confirm things were moving forward. Justin was our installer and he knew his stuff. Very friendly and completed the work on time and as expected. Great experience working with “Power Up.”"

"Tom from Synergy did the bid for under cabinet lighting install, however sent someone else to do the job. Originally discussed with Tom that he would use a regular converter box inside the cabinet and place a dimmer switch on the wall, but the other guy he sent wasn't aware of this and placed the dimmer converter in the cabinet. This has resulted in us having to use the dimmer switch inside the cabinet instead of on a wall switch -- not what I requested. Also, I discussed with Tom installing an additional outlet in our kitchen during the bid process. After he left I noticed he did not include that on the written bid. The guy he sent didn't know about it either. The outlet was installed however. Overall, I was charged $95 additional over the bid and didn't get exactly what I wanted in regard to the dimmer switch for under cabinet lighting. Both electricians were very nice and professional, but there was definitely a communication problem in regard to the installation of the under cabinet lighting. Perhaps I should have clarified the issue more strongly, or perhaps I didn't understand. Either way, I'm happy with the lighting overall, but not 100%."

"These guys were great. Needed a Tesla home charger installed. Had two other quotes from different companies that said I had to do extra upgrades to get it installed. Power Up said the upgrades weren’t needed after all and was able to do the install for half the price of the other guys. Would highly recommend!"

"Paul came over early in morning and gave us a bid to install two ceiling fans and a bathroom light fixture. He said the fee would be $180 for each fan and $80 for the light fixture plus an $89 service fee. Bid seemed high, but he said he could do the work that day, so we went ahead. He was very professional and informative. Did the work efficiently and was courteous. The fans and lights work well."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

While the rating will tell you how many watts the refrigerator needs at the peak of its cycle, it requires additional wattage to start. At the bare minimum, you’ll need a 1,500-watt generator to get the fridge up and running after a blackout. A 2,000-watt generator should be sufficient for most home refrigerators.

Generators are safe to use as long as they are installed and operated correctly according to the manufacturer's recommendations. The most critical safety tips are to never use a portable or fuel-powered generator inside an enclosed space due to the risk of lethal carbon monoxide poisoning; always operate it outdoors where fumes can dissipate away from your home. Additionally, never attempt to connect a generator to your home’s electrical panel yourself—hire a professional to ensure the setup meets safety standards. Finally, avoid overloading the generator by not connecting more appliances than it is rated for, as this can damage your equipment or cause a fire.

Generators run on a variety of fuel types, ranging from natural gas to solar power. Keep in mind that fuel costs varying by type:

  • Natural gas: $2,000–$21,000 per year

  • Liquid propane: $2,000–$21,000 per year

  • Diesel: $3,000–$20,000 per year

  • Gasoline: $500–$3,000 per year

  • Solar generator: $2,000–$25,000 per unit

  • Battery backup: $10,000–$25,000 per unit

A 10,000-watt generator can run a small to mid-sized central AC unit (typically up to 3 tons or 36,000 BTU) along with a few other appliances. However, larger AC units or additional loads will require a bigger generator. Consult a local generator installer to ensure you add the correct size generator to your home.

Yes, installing a generator usually increases your property value because buyers are getting the added peace of mind knowing they’ll be able to maintain power through blackouts. In most cases, you should see close to a 100% return on investment (ROI). Keep in mind that home generators usually need a permanent foundation, and installing a concrete slab will likely raise your property taxes slightly.
