"We had JEK install some pendent lights in our kitchen and a backup generator for the house, and they did an awesome job! JEK is super reliable, always showed up when they said they would, and really paid attention to the little details. Everything looks great and works perfectly. You can tell they take their work seriously and want to make sure it’s done right. Would definitely call them again and recommend them to anyone needing electrical work."

Customers say: Quick response

"KC Contracting and Construction built 3 homes for us simultaneously (For us and our 2 sons), a shop, and a barn, and did a phenomenal job on everything. They were very professional, hard working, and easy to work with. We have built several homes in the past and this was, by far, our best experience. We have never worked with a more honest contractor who really cares about his customers and the quality of the work they provide. We will definitely use them for any future construction needs."

"As a new home owner, I am more the thrilled by the high quality of work done by Indian Summer Pool and Spa. I called Doug Fender (one of the owners), who made an immediate appointment with me to discus my plans to expand my patio, along with three other companies. Doug when through all available options, costs and expectations on the job I wanted done. Not only did he have a great team of employee's show up on time, they had everything organized from ground prep, rock deliver, concrete delivery, and temporary fencing down to the minute. I was very impressed with the owners showing up to make sure that I as a home owner was happy with each step of the process and that every employee was very efficient and knew their area of expertise. I would highly recommend them to anyone needing work done on a project you want done right. Just a note not only did the come in on budget, but the other companies I called did not have any where the game plans or explain the details of what to expect. This is a company you will be happy with."

Storm Shelters questions, answered by experts

The national average cost for a building permit is around $1,600, a figure that typically includes major renovations. Costs can vary significantly depending on the job. For instance, basic construction, plumbing, or minor electrical permits can cost between $10 and $150, while permits for building a new home can reach $2,000 or more. Overall, homeowners typically spend between $150 and $2,000 for one or more permits for a project. Keep in mind that fees may not be flat rates; they can also be calculated as a percentage of the project's cost or size.

If you live in an area where hurricanes and tornadoes pose a serious risk to your safety, storm shelters aren’t only worth it—they’re a must for keeping you and your family safe. However, if you live in a region that doesn’t experience extreme weather, a storm shelter may not be the most sensible option for you.

The decision to build or buy an outdoor pizza oven depends on your personal preferences, budget, and time. Whether building is cheaper hinges on the style you choose and the tools and materials you already possess. For example, having a surplus of fire bricks from a previous project can significantly reduce costs. However, if you need to purchase all the required materials, buying a pre-made oven is often the more affordable and less labor-intensive option, with prices for quality versions typically ranging from $300 to $1,000. Keep in mind that while a DIY project can be cheaper than hiring a professional for a custom build, it carries the risk of injury or costly construction errors.

Modular homes are cost-effective, energy-efficient, and faster to build than traditional homes. They also offer customizable designs.

Local zoning laws and building codes will determine whether you can build a guest house in your backyard. These laws may limit the potential location of the guest house on your lot or the size and look of the structure. If your lot isn’t large enough, you may not be able to build a guest house at all. Speaking with a local home addition company can help you learn about the local regulations and your other options, such as adding an ADU onto the main house.
