"Paid in advanced for multiple parts of the projects. Started out friendly, ended up cursing homeowner out multiple times in front of family members and other contractors. His guys had to come back multiple times and repair things done incorrectly. Didn’t care that we wanted a different railing down the steps to match other fencing, he just did something easy. Also the concrete steps should have been poured wider but they filled space with rock after we mentioned it not being correct. We paid for 4’W they poured 3’W. Ordered trusses when we wanted vaulted ceilings. After they were here he said “well you get what I ordered”. He did not have any type of blueprint before starting, we trusted that the photos we provided of vaulted ceiling would be enough, clearly not. He said he would not finish the sunroom because he did not want to change and he kept the money and never heard from him again. I would absolutely not recommend this company."

"Contracted with Top Deck to build a watershed Lumber Rock deck on a walkout lot. In all the work was very efficient and communication with Pat Flynn was great. He was very determined to have everything look great and work right. A couple of times he noticed things he was unhappy with and fixed them even though we were ok with it. Pat also stands behind his work. After a rainfall there was a small trickle running down the side of the house that got to the space below we are now using as an outdoor living area. Docks can last between 20 and 30 years, provided regular maintenance has been performed. Upkeep tasks like staining your dock annually to prevent water damage, repairing broken elements quickly, and using dock covers regularly will help extend your dock’s life. Your dock is likely nearing the end of its lifespan when it shows signs of rot, rust, and foundation damage.

Regularly inspect for structural issues, clean debris, and apply sealant to protect from water damage.

Bulging walls, cracks in the seawall's top or side, and the appearance of a seawall "pulling away" are all signs that you need repairs or reconstruction. The area around the seawall can also provide clues. For instance, you may notice water bubbling over in areas of your yard if your seawall has holes or cracks. The soil around the seawall may also appear to be sloping or sinking.

Boat docks need maintenance every year. Get an inspection at the end of each warm weather season, and remove the dock from the water if possible (if it’s made of wood) when not in use. You can also treat the wood to lessen the impact of moisture damage.

Here are a few other considerations before you build, even if you're convinced you're in compliance with the law:

  • Are you damaging the environment? Bodies of water are often delicate ecosystems, and building a dock can be destructive and disruptive to the wildlife.

  • Are you blocking access? Lots of people like to use a lake, so you need to make sure your dock doesn't block public access to the water.

  • Can you enclose the dock? Just because you can build a dock doesn't mean you can build any dock you want. Some areas don't allow enclosed docks, for example.

  • Do you need to follow any specific rules or guidelines? Check with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) Office for Coastal Management for any guidelines you’ll need to follow, including size and type restrictions.
