"Covid held up product a little to no fault of Affordable Bounds. One shutter came too small. Reordered took another month or so. But I wanted shutters again so I waited."

"I had a foundation issue that caused a window to shift out of its casing. Window World was happy enough to help me with just the one window that would need to be replaced. The sale, scheduling to the installation was done very quickly and everyone was all very polite and professional."

"I have high standards and they met and/or exceeded those in a number of areas. My home is 15+ years old and was built with the cheap contractor grade single hung windows. These windows were poorly made and the internal gaskets were cracking on the windows facing south. I obtained 8 bids for the window replacements and as you might imagine, I received a range of prices with a range of window quality offerings. Cornerstone had several models they quoted. I ended up with the Soft-Light Impeial double hung windows which were not the top of the line but one step down. They are still some of the better windows I saw and appreciated the fact their warranty (30 years) would transfer when I sold the home. I had two challenges. First, I personally clean my windows 2-3 times per year. Four of the windows replaced are on the second story making access a bit more difficult. The fact that they were single hung and by some trees made it even more difficult. The second large challenge was my desire to keep the plantation shutters on all the windows. Cornerstone went to great lengths (estimator as well as installers) to make this happen. The estimator was professional and thorough. He presented a number of options for my consideration. The installers were top-notch and completed the job in one day. They were very accommodating as well and left the work site in pristine condition. I couldn't be happier. To top it off, the owner of the company called me the next day to ask how they did. You don't get that type of service very often. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Cornerstone Home Improvements to anyone and will certainly call them next time I have a project."

Window Shutter Repair questions, answered by experts

Shutters are still very common in Southern, farmhouse, and traditional-style homes, especially those in warm climates who can benefit from the increased efficiency. While modern homes and designs tend to shy away from shutters, shutters are a timeless design style that will likely be around for decades to come.

Plantation shutters cost an average of $2,990, making them one of the pricier shutter options. However, they offer a 75% return on your investment and are great options for boosting curb appeal and property value. Most people go for plantation shutters for their timeless, vintage look. They also provide the strongest light blocking and temperature control for your home.

The most popular estate shutter brands include Hunter Douglas, Budget Blinds®, and Graber®. Hunter Douglas shutters cost $20 to $26 per square foot and include high-quality hardwood and faux wood options. Budget Blinds shutters cost $20 to $24 per square foot, depending on if you choose natural wood or another material. Depending on the material, Graber shutters range from $18 to $24 per square foot.

Not all windows are suitable for shutters, as certain styles can prevent them from functioning correctly. It's best to avoid installing shutters on bay windows, picture windows, dormer windows, and double-mulled windows. Shutters are better suited for large, full-size standard windows or French doors.

Additionally, consider the room's lighting needs. Since shutters effectively block light, they are an excellent choice for rooms where you want more darkness and privacy, such as a master bedroom or a main living room. For window types that are not ideal for functional shutters, some homeowners choose to install fixed (non-functional) shutters to maintain a consistent look across the home.

Estate shutters offer more energy efficiency, privacy, and light control than blinds. They provide better insulation against heat and cold, lowering your energy bills. They’re also sturdy, durable, and last much longer than blinds (up to 50 years or longer). They’re also low-maintenance and can add curb appeal to your home. The return on investment (ROI) for estate shutters is around 75%.
