"After a frustrating experience with another HVAC company, Cochran was a breath of fresh air. Communication was always consistent. He was here when he said he would be, and when he had other jobs going long he made sure to call me. He was upfront about costs and options for our failing unit. There were a few minor hiccups along the way that came with being a smaller business, but the customer service more than made up for it. Great value for the money. Would certainly recommend."

"Great experience with Flame Tech. George was knowledgeable and responsive. He provided an accurate estimate over email based on a number of photos and a few phone conversations which streamlined the bid process considerably. They replaced my AC in a few hours for a fair price and educated me on other safety considerations related to my furnace. He also helped me diagnose a rattle in my air ducts that would have given me fits. Good price, know-how, and customer service, I would use Flame Tech again."

"Contact was made with Jason and he met with me for a free estimate of what work I wanted performed.. Jason and Chris were hired to service the Furnace and to install new H&A ducts underneath the house. Other work performed by the guys was replacing old and leaking waterlines underneath the house, and hauling away all the old ducts. Hauling an old Heating and Air unit on the side of the house, and doing some mason work to cover the hole. Installing a section of chain link fence and gate. Troubleshooting and replacing an electrical switch in the storage shed. Unclogging and replacing a waterline underneath my bathtub and installing a new shower head and fixtures. Also, repairing a leaking toilet bowl and replacing a rotting section of floor underneath..... Overall, the boys were excellent in their knowledge and work performance. They were easy to talk too and their work ethics was superb... I would without a doubt hire them again should and when the need arise..."

"Once the electrical box was opened and assessed it was apparent that the electrical box was pulled away from the house wall by the ground settling. Much of the wood frame behind the box had experienced water damage requiring long screws to seek enough wood meat to pull the box back to the brick wall. A vertical slip sleeve pipe was installed to adjust for the horizontal piping in the ground settling. The owner agreed to add foam, calking to help seal the wall box to the house wall and add a sloped top cover and sides to add additional protection from future heavy rain. This was an original construction land settling issue that is not uncommon."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

To diagnose a bad HVAC or AC damper, assess the airflow from your vents. For a manual damper, close it, run your system, and check for airflow. If air is still coming through the vents, the damper is likely faulty and needs repair or replacement. For an automatic damper, turn on your HVAC system and monitor the airflow and room temperature. Signs of a problem include low airflow, a room that won't maintain its set temperature, or a drafty feeling. If you suspect a faulty automatic damper, you may need to hire a professional for repairs.

No, you don’t need a ductless unit in every room. Ductless AC units don't work the way that window units do, where the air doesn't travel outside that room. The indoor air handlers all attach to the outdoor condenser. While the air doesn't travel the way that traditional ductwork would, the ductless AC units create zones so that one part of the home can be cooler than another. They can spread effectively enough that indoor units only need to be placed in main living areas.

Yes, technicians check refrigerant levels, loop performance, and system calibration for peak efficiency.

On average, an AC unit lasts between 10 and 20 years. However, the specific lifespan depends on the type of unit, how often it's used, the local climate, and the quality of maintenance. Central AC units typically last 12 to 17 years, while window units have a shorter lifespan of 8 to 10 years. Portable AC units last about 5 to 10 years, and ductless mini-split systems can last up to 20 years. To extend the life of your AC unit, it's important to perform regular maintenance, such as replacing filters, cleaning coils, and scheduling annual professional tune-ups.

The best time of year to purchase or replace an HVAC system, including components like an air conditioner or furnace, is during the off-season—spring and fall. During these periods, HVAC professionals are less busy than in summer and winter, when extreme temperatures create urgent demand. Shopping during the off-season can lead to savings of 10% to 15% on an AC unit and allows you more time to find the best deal and other cost-saving incentives. Typically, air conditioning units go on sale in the fall after demand drops, while furnace prices tend to decrease in the spring.
