"We hired them for a small retaining wall project and then ended up hiring them for larger retaining wall project. David is very reliable and professional. He is about getting the job done, and getting it done right! They were on time, cleaned up after themselves and kept in communication at all times. I would definitely recommend them!"

"Rene was easy to get a hold of via text message and his team were able to work on our wall a day early. They were quick and very left the site very clean. They went above and beyond with actually fixing the and cleaning a section of wall that of wall that was not part of the bid, but was something they noticed needed to be done. I would highly recommend Rene and A&D Masonry"

"I was referred to Tomas by a coworker. I asked him to do my lawn and he offered to come Friday. I asked if there was any chance he could come sooner and he made it happen Tuesday! My back yard has a retaining wall that wouldn't allow his mower to be used on my upper yard and we had discussed that was ok and he could just do the lower portion and front yard. The team ended up using string trimmers to maintain the upper lawn. I was very happy with the quality of service, for the price! Would hire again!"

"this is the 4th project that I have used Foundation Recovery Systems for to repair my basement walls and the work is always spot on. On this project it was more wall anchors and Devon Brown and his crew did excellent work and were very informative about the work they were doing. They drove on very icy roads for three to four hours to get to my home."

Wall Repair questions, answered by experts

Railroad ties can be good for retaining walls, but it depends on the area. They have a desirable rustic look and are durable. The problem is they’re treated with creosote, a preservative the EPA says poses a risk to humans and wildlife. Over time, the preservative seeps out of the wood and into the ground. Many areas have banned the use of creosote-treated wood on residential properties. If your area does allow it, never use railroad ties near an edible garden or drinking water source. Instead, use wood that’s treated with an EPA-approved preservative or a wood-alternative composite material.

Poured concrete is often the cheapest material for a retaining wall, costing around $6 to $8 per square foot. Other budget-friendly options include vinyl and landscaping timbers, which range from $10 to $15 per square foot; landscaping timbers are particularly well-suited for DIY projects. Untreated timber and railroad ties are a step up in price, starting at $15 to $25 per square foot. Natural stones can also be a cost-effective choice if you can source them from your own property, but they can be expensive to purchase. High-end materials like steel are typically the most expensive but offer superior durability and aesthetics.

Even if you think you know how to build a retaining wall theoretically, doing the actual work is a completely different story. There are lots of nuances in building retaining walls, and the slightest oversight can compromise their integrity. Therefore, we recommend you hire a pro to build, repair, or replace retaining walls.

To maintain the integrity of your landscape, a retaining wall must be installed if the slope of the angle exceeds 35 degrees. The lean of the wall must be 1 inch per 12 inches in height to disperse the weight of the soil uniformly and guarantee the correct drainage of the soil.

They prevent soil erosion, add flat space, and enhance property aesthetics.
