"He contacted me very promptly and came to look at the project. He explained to me what the problem was and stated he did not have the proper special equipment to make the repair. He recommended a company that he felt sure would be able to do the work."

"One thing Shawn arranges for is to have a lady come in and clean/dust everything after they are done with dry wall sanding and such. That was a nice bonus.  He also found a spectacular carpet cleaner guy to get out stains and wax tracked in on carpeting. Carpet still looks great!

Shawn has a helper named Mike, and Mike is a hard worker. Mike shows up on time, and works as long as he has to without complaining. Shawn does have sub contractors for dry wall and painting.  His painter (Melbin) does an awesome job, but some of the guys that help Melbin are rather sloppy, leaving paint in sinks and splatters on counters.  Shawn made sure it was all taken care of later on though.  Shawn's dry wall guy (Carlos) knows how to get the job done pretty well, but wasn't very conscientious about making sure surfaces were protected (like floors, carpets, etc) from the dry wall compound, and he dumped the waste down in the street sewer- a big "no-no."
I agree with another reviewer that stated Shawn seems to have a lot of things suddenly "come up" and seems to have too many "irons in the fire." There were several times when Shawn didn't show up when he said he would. Sometimes we would be contacted as to why, other times not.  I think this is common among contractors, unfortunately. They seem to have a whole different concept of time.

Shawn finished the job within a week of our deadline. We had some unexpected add-ons that understandably lengthened the job. "

"Very happy with the job and the process. Dan Ryan spent a good deal of time planning how to deal with some odd features with our roof and was more thorough than the other companies in the planning stage. He worked quickly with the insurance adjuster three times. His crew was punctual and professional and kept the site clean. No surprises except some bad decking which Dan worked with the adjuster to cover. The whole job was completed in 12 hours. I would use them again.

"I could not be happier with the finished project and the price. My job was small, approx. 250 square feet total. Initially, I called Dan Wilson, the owner of Wilson Concrete & Construction LLC, and two other contractors, because I always try to get more than one bid, and I especially wanted to get 2 or 3 bids because I had heard that concrete work is very expensive. Two of the contractors were very blunt - told me the job was not worth their time. One guy told me if I would go out and do my own measurements and text them to him, it would save him the trouble of coming out to do it himself. Needless to say, I gave that guy no more of my time. Dan Wilson was the only contractor who responded and came to my home to meet with me, and I learned a lot just talking to him. There are several sections of my long driveway that need to be replaced, but the worst was at the curb below the city sidewalk - with a pothole growing larger every day. I asked Dan for two bids, one to replace the two worst sections, and one to replace just the section with the pothole and the section of the city sidewalk adjacent to it (required by the City). I decided to go with the latter. IMPORTANT NOTE: well, at least important to me. Dan did not ask for one penny up front. In my mind, a contractor who can afford to do that is running a successful and profitable business and has confidence in his ability. On the day of the job, the crew showed up early in the morning and worked very efficiently. They were very professional and pleasant guys. I was amazed at how quickly they tore out the old concrete. When they had finished pouring the concrete and set up protective barriers and tape, it was beginning to look like rain. The crew covered the freshly poured concrete with plastic sheeting and stayed until the concrete had set up to the point that it could safely withstand the rain. That afternoon, we had a downpour. The new section looks great. Two people walking by have commented on the beautiful job and one asked for the name of the contractor. I will definitely call Dan back in the future to replace remaining sections of the driveway. It's just a matter of time."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

You can enclose an open carport, however, there are several things to consider before opting to do so. You'll want to check local building codes and permit requirements before proceeding to make sure it’s legal. While you can sometimes stick-frame a carport enclosure, pre-fab kits are also available. Remember that you'll likely need to meet concrete slab regulations and provide lighting inside the structure. Both of which could substantially drive up costs.

Yes, you can find ceiling joists using simple tools if a stud finder isn't available.

Using a hammer requires patience and a keen ear. Gently tap the ceiling in a grid pattern, listening for sound changes. A hollow sound indicates space between joists, while a solid, dull thud suggests a joist. Mark the location with a pencil and confirm by tapping from different angles.

Alternatively, you can use a nail, but this method will leave small holes. You'll feel increased resistance when the nail hits a joist. Mark the spot and repeat the process every 16 or 24 inches to map the joist locations. This method is considered less reliable than using a stud finder.

Your local building code will list all the framing requirements for whatever type of structure you're building. Most exterior walls require spacing of 16 inches on-center, while many non-load-bearing interior walls only require 24 inches of spacing. However, there are also varying requirements depending on your construction material, so checking your municipality's rules is essential.

New builds, remodels, and additions often necessitate professional framing expertise.

There are a few easy ways to locate a wall stud without a stud finder. First, try knocking on the wall with your knuckles. Most parts of the wall will sound hollow, but when you tap over a stud, it will sound more solid. Alternatively, since studs are spaced 16 or 24 inches apart, you can measure those distances from a corner of the room, which will always have a stud.
