FedEx tracking showed the package at their facility for 8 days without moving beginning on 10/15. Called FedEx 3 times. Each time they said they cannot find package and I have to contact shipper. Shipper has to make a claim, they will not mark it as lost. Called Appliance Parts Pros twice. Each time they say FedEx has to mark package lost before they will do anything. They also state they have to wait 14 days from them before doing anything because of their contract with FedEx. I don't care about their contract, I want what was ordered and paid for. "We were long-time customers of Knight having been Royal Maintenance Program subscribers for several years with our 14 year old, high efficiency furnace. From time to time they have said we needed repairs, some expensive. We paid the bills thinking the costs were legitimate. At the most recent visit (October 2020) one of their technicians came for a regular maintenance visit and said he had discovered a carbon monoxide leak and had to shut our H/Vac system down for safety reasons. He advised that our furnace was so old (14 years) that tracking down the leak would be very expensive and subsequent repairs would cost nearly as much as a new system. He recommended (several times) that their sales office contact us for a bid on a replacement furnace. I was suspicious and called another respected company in Springfield. After a lengthy inspection they said there was a small, intermittent carbon monoxide detection that seemed to be coming from an exhaust pipe with a comprised seal but they couldn't be certain that the heat exchanger wasn't leaking as well. Since that would require removing and replacing the exchanger they checked with the manufacturer and found that it had a lifetime warranty. This meant we could get a brand new exchanger for the price of the labor to install it. Final result was that it ended up costing us a few hundred dollars instead of many thousands that we would have spent on a new system if we had followed the tech's advice. This experience has made me question every service Knight ever performed for us and in the future we will be doing business elsewhere."

If possible, avoid placing furniture in front of a return air vent. A blocked air vent can cause your HVAC system to use more energy, which in turn can lower the life span of your unit and raise your energy bill. Furniture can also trap hot or cold air, damaging your furniture or appliances. 

Professional duct installers suggest leaving between six and 12 inches of space in front of an air return vent. If you must place furniture in front of a return air vent, try to aim for putting furniture over a floor vent instead of in front of a wall vent, and avoid draping curtains over any vent system.

There are many signs of a bad AC fan motor, including if the fan blades don’t spin when the AC kicks on or if they keep spinning when the AC is off. The AC fan cools down the condenser coil, so a faulty motor can also cause the system to overheat. Unusual noises in the exterior AC unit, including grinding or rattling sounds, may also be a sign that the AC fan motor is worn out.

To reduce AC startup power for a whole-house generator, install a soft start kit or hard start capacitor, which lowers the initial surge by gradually ramping up the compressor. Using a smart load manager can also help by staggering startup loads, preventing a system overload and future costly repairs.

Some HVAC systems tend to use R410A refrigerant, although if you have an older model it may be using R22. R22 is banned due to its harmful environmental and health impacts, and it is a sign that your AC unit is old enough to consider a replacement and the significant efficiency gains that could come with it.

On a summer day, expect your AC to run between 12 and 16 hours. However, this time frame depends on just how hot it is outside and the comfortable temperature you’re hoping to maintain indoors. Assuming the size of your AC is appropriate for the space you’re trying to cool, it shouldn’t be a problem for it to work this many hours.
