"The sink had very thick and longtime build-up that was mostly clogging a big section of pipe and not able to be opened with a "snake". Several feet of pipe had to be removed and replaced. Once the occluded piece was removed, Kyle showed me the ends of the pipe after it was removed and why just trying to shift the caked in debris wouldn't work in this case. I appreciated him showing me (including some photos, as I have a crawl space) along with explaining so I had a better understanding. He was considerate in explanations of the work, wearing a mask, punctuality and in cleaning up after."

"I'd been using the same firm for almost twenty years, the owner retired, and I've been having problems finding a new plumber who could perform to that standard. I'll keep this short and simple: they responded to my call almost immediately. The owner came by and gave me an estimate for the first job, a second job, and a repipe with PEX (much bigger job than I wanted to have done right now.). The estimate was a stunner, a fraction of what I had been quoted even several years ago. I told him to go for it, and his people started in, again, within a couple of days. Now, here's the plot twist. There WAS an issue with the work, which the owner came back personally and took care of, completely to my satisfaction. HE DID NOT ATTEMPT TO DOWNPLAY IT, BLAME ME FOR THE PROBLEM, KEEP PUTTING ME OFF TILL I GOT TIRED OF CALLING, OR ATTEMPT TO CHARGE ME FOR ANY PART OF HIS RETURN TRIP. There is no doubt in my mind who I'm going to call in the future."

"Thrasher did a good job on the basement foundation and installation of new sump pump. A little pricey. Workers were prompt, courteous and cleaned up when done."

Drain Pipe Installation questions, answered by experts

Costs vary by severity and access requirements. Typical pricing ranges from $100 to $350, increasing with complexity or for emergency services.

Plumbers use a variety of tools to help unclog the toughest of drain clogs, but the most common tools they use are drain snakes and augers. They try a plunger or drain snake to start, then move to heavy-duty augers, and finally try using a hydro jetter to blast away the clog with high-pressure water. Hiring a plumber to unclog a drain costs $125 to $300, largely depending on the extent and location of the clog and which of these methods is best for clearing it.

Snaking a drain can take as little as a few minutes for small, simple clogs, up to two hours or more for tough clogs located further down the drain line. For tougher clogs, a professional drain cleaner can likely get the job done much more quickly because they have the necessary tools and expertise. However, your drain cleaning pro might not be able to give you a firm time estimate until inspecting the clog and its surrounding plumbing.

No. You should never pour old paint down a drain or sewer because it can clog pipes and pollute the environment. You must dispose of paint properly and safely. Different types of paint need to be disposed of in different ways—oil-based paints must be taken to a paint recycling center, while you can throw dried-out water- or latex-based paints in the garbage.

There are several homemade solutions for clearing a clogged sink that don’t involve pouring harsh chemicals down your drain. Start by pouring hot (but not boiling) water down the drain. This can help dissolve and flush away grease and gunk. A splash of dish soap down the drain can also cut through fat and make it easier to clear the drain. For a more stubborn blockage, grab a plunger and give it a few firm pumps to dislodge the clog.
