"Every technician needs knowledge and the right tools; Chris from Randy’s Electric had both. He quickly diagnosed the problem and repaired a faulty connection amidst a daisy chain of electrical connections that had rendered several outlets inoperable. I recommend this company."

"Excellent. The whole team is respectful and left the work areas very clean. They do the little things that separate themselves from others extremely well. For the panel there was a follow-up need Jason, the owner, came back out to our home at 10PM. And for the light fixtures Parker noticed we had a dimmer on a switch that wasn't connected to a dimmable light, a fire hazard, so he put a new switch in for us, something that wasn't on our radar. We will call them for any future electrical needs."

"I went to check on my Mom's townhouse in Chaska as she was in AZ for the winter.  The furnace had stopped working and the house was 38 degrees.  I called Professional Mechanical Service, the phone was answered promptly and this person said he would contact a technician in the area of Chaska.  He called me back within 10 minutes and said that Zach would be calling me to tell me when he would be there (this was 1:15pm).  Zach called me back immediately and said he would be there by 2pm.  Zach arrived at 1:50pm.  He diagnosed the problem immediately and installed the defective part within 20 minutes.  He also saved me $ by telling me I could install my own new thermostat which wasn't working properly either.  Impressed with the seamless communication and exceptional service."

"The problem turned out to be a burned out small electric door switch. I believe the price was way too expensive for the service performed and the price of the door switch. What more can I say? It got done."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Yes, a whole-house surge protector needs a designated breaker in your electrical panel. You will need to choose a double pole breaker that has two wire terminals so that your surge protector can connect to the breaker. This breaker needs two breaker slots inside of your panel. If you do not have room, then you will either need to adjust some of the existing breakers in the panel box or hire an electrician to install a subpanel.

Systems should be checked every 2-3 years or whenever signs of age appear, maintaining network integrity and safety at all times.

While the National Electrical Code (NEC) does not set a strict limit, a common guideline is to have a maximum of eight outlets or receptacles on a 15-amp circuit. This rule of thumb, which equates to about one outlet per 1.5 amps, helps keep the total electrical load safely below 80% of the circuit breaker's capacity. It is important to consider the power demands of any devices or appliances that will be plugged in, as overloading a circuit can lead to tripped breakers or create a fire hazard. To ensure the safety and code compliance of your electrical system, consult with a licensed electrician.

If you have a garage heater that is 1,500 watts or more, it will need its own breaker. As a good rule of thumb, no appliance should exceed 1,500 watts per outlet for best outcomes. Consult a local garage heating service to determine the power needs for your outdoor or indoor space.

In most cases, line wires are located at the bottom of a panel or device, while load wires are located at the top. Line wires are generally black, while load wires are typically red or black. To tell for sure, you can use a multimeter or volt pen to test the wire. A live or line wire will always carry a charge, while a load wire will only carry a charge when it’s in use.
