"NE Electric was the first to call me back after submitting the servicemagic request. They were actually able to schedule an appointment for the same day I made the request, which was terrific. The electrician that completed the project was very friendly, helpful, and did a quick and clean job. The prices were competitive to other bids received. I will definitely go with Nordeast Electric in the future."

"Adam provided an estimate for wiring our new woodshop (24 x 32 feet).  His bid was thorough, detailed and competitive.  Once we awarded the work to Go Electric, we realized there had been a misunderstanding regarding the start date.  Adam graciously, and without complaint, rearranged his other scheduled jobs to accommodate our urgent request.  Adam worked directly with Connexus in solving a complex electrical hookup issue.    As part of the woodshop job and electrical hookup issues, Adam advised that we update our 1969 electrical panel.  The recommendation was made based on safety concerns, compliance with state and federal code, and the savings for us doing it now versus in the future.     After paying the final bill, there were a few unforeseen issues that were not part of the original project and Adam was quick to provide solutions and immediately scheduled the additional work.     Overall, Go Electric and staff (Joss and Nick) are personable, honest, clear and lightning-fast communicators, customer focused, well organized, polite, knowledgeable, and respectful (of our property and decisions).  Weâ ve worked with a lot of contractors and Adam and his team stand out.  All for a reasonable cost which was competitive with other bids.  Go Electric comes with our sterling recommendation - we do not have one complaint."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Smoke detectors come in two different options: hardwired or battery-operated. While hardwired units are attached directly to the home’s electrical system, a battery-operated smoke detector only needs a simple battery for operation and can be placed virtually anywhere in your home. Some homeowners may mistakenly think their battery-operated units are hardwired in because all their units are interconnected, but many battery-operated units can operate within a smoke alarm network in your home.

Provided you leave the switch in the off position, your broken bulb shouldn’t be drawing any power. However, there’s always the risk that the switch is turned on by accident, potentially causing electrical damage or even a fire. Plus, broken glass in the home is never ideal. For safety, it’s a good idea to remove broken bulbs as soon as possible. If you’re in doubt, a local lighting professional can help you remove the bulb safely and quickly.

The average cost to hire an electrician is around $350. However, every electrical job varies in scope, materials, and labor involved, so while you will likely pay anywhere between $85 and $1,100 for standard jobs, a project like rewiring a house can cost up to $30,000. You might also pay slightly higher prices if you need emergency work done or if the work involves accessing a hard-to-reach area in your home, like an attic or cramped crawlspace. You should ask your electrician for an estimate before agreeing to the work.

You should never wire neutral and ground wires together at a light switch. Not only is it unsafe, but it’s also incorrect. The neutral and ground wires perform separate functions in an electrical circuit and should never be swapped or wired together at a light switch, light, or outlet.

A voltmeter measures the voltage of AC or DC electrical current. Unlike a multimeter, measuring voltage is a voltmeter’s only function. Voltage is the potential difference between two points within a circuit. Measuring voltage with a voltmeter can help identify wiring issues or determine whether a battery is dead.
