"We called Home Seal to consult on weatherization and insulation for our 1920s bungalow. The advice was great and we hired them to insulate the rim joists between our basement and first floor as well as adding cellulose insulation to our attic space. The communication throughout this project went well and the work was completed as scheduled. We would highly recommend Home Seal for weatherization and insulation projects."

"John and his team did amazing work removing the old, insufficient insulation in the attic of my nearly 120 year old home and replacing it with a much higher R-value blow-in insulation. The difference in the look of the attic is phenomenal, and I am confident it will be good for the energy efficiency of our home as well. The entire project took around 8 hours and the team even cleaned up to the point where you could hardly tell any work was done. I found dealing with John and Spray Foam Insulation Systems to be a very pleasant experience. Very honest and forthright, while offering a very fair rate for the work. I highly recommend working with them."

"The estimator for our garage insulation project from Home Pro, Lyndsay Praml, was excellent. She was extremely knowledgeable regarding the type of insulation to use and the attic venting needs. Lyndsay actually climbed into the attic space over the garage to inspect and measure the space. We would have used Home Pro had not our overall kitchen/garage contractor come up with their own contractor."

"UZ Insulation was wonderful to work with! They showed up when scheduled, I received a fair estimate, and they notified me about the rebate program with CenterPoint Energy. All of their employees were personable and represented the company well. I had a unique situation that required extra phone calls and assistance, that had nothing to do with the work that UZ performed, and Tim M. and Angie were unbelievably patient and went the extra mile to help me. I highly recommend UZ for insulation work! The best part is I no longer smell cigarette smoke from an adjacent unit! Thank you UZ Insulation!"

Drywall Insulation questions, answered by experts

In most cases, no, you won’t need a permit to replace drywall. If you’re changing the floorplan of your home by adding or removing walls during the drywall project, then you might need a permit, but replacement or repairs usually doesn’t require a permit. Your drywall professional should be able to confirm whether or not a permit is required for your project. If it is, it’s likely to add between $50 and $150 to your total cost. Keep in mind that you will need permits if you plan to install new electrical wiring or plumbing lines behind your new drywall.

Costs range from $500 to $5,000, depending on damage size, labor, and finishing requirements.

Whether to repair or replace water-damaged plaster depends on the scale of the damage. For small, limited areas, you can often perform a repair yourself. If you choose to paint over small patches, ensure the surface is completely dry and apply a coat of antifungal primer first to prevent mold growth. However, simply painting or plastering over the damage is only a temporary solution that doesn't address the core problem. For more extensive or long-term damage, the plaster may be compromised, and there is a risk of mold. In these cases, it is recommended to remove the damaged section of plasterboard and replace it. You may consider hiring a professional for the repair, and it's worth noting that water damage is often covered by home insurance.

Most drywall used for interior walls of homes is 1/2-inch thick. This size strikes a balance of being easy to handle and hang while being thick enough for the durability needed on interior wall applications.

With its breathability and flexibility, lime plaster is among the most durable of all plaster types. It's also fire-resistant and has a proven track record, as people have been using it for thousands of years.

However, all plaster types will last for many years with the right care and treatment. Proper preparation and installation will also help ensure your plaster walls look great for as long as possible.
