The team arrived on time everyday, were incredibly respectful of our home and space, and were very thorough in their work and cleanup. Beyond that, Gene was so patient with me as I struggled with decision paralysis when selecting paint colors and offered some great professional opinions to guide me. The project took a few days longer than originally anticipated but that is becuase Gene and his team wanted to ensure we were 100% happy with the finished product - I much prefer a superior final product over speed. Varsity painters started in 1995 as the vision of two friends, Steve Melander and Joe Perry. Both originally from the Twin Cities, they have been in the painting business since 1987.
"They were incredible. Joe was a part of both jobs. He was either here or readily available at all times. The exterior crew was very efficient, and yet very meticulous. Unfortunately we have woodpecker damage. They filled these areas, and after painting you can't tell there was damage. On the interior painting, they estimated 5 days and were done in 3. They did a great job of clean-up. The painting job itself was absolutely perfect. I would hire Varsity again, in a heart beat."

"I have used Steve a number of times before, so I knew what to expect. Steve is a very hard worker, puts in a full days work, covers up absolutely everything that might catch a stray drop of paint and cleans up each day before he leaves. Steve knows his business and gets it right. I had initially hired him for a week, but the job was huge, so he gave two more days before he had to move on. He repaired miles of tape on corners of sheetrock that had pulled away form the edges ( typical of newer house builder quality, unfortunately!). He also repaired dozens of nail pops and then needed to repaint entire walls, including an entire winding staircase. I also had Steve repaint the kitchen , dining area, dining room and major portions of three bedrooms and the basement . This was a BIG JOB and very tedious. As always, Steve did a first class job at a very fair price."

There were a few unexpected changes to layout due to structural constraints, which resulted in a less efficient flow. The cost of change orders were not clearly explained prior to execution. The contractor was very hands on and at the job site extensively, and she was easy to get a hold of. The carpenter was not available to work on the project on Fridays, which did extend the project timeline. The contractor pointed out repairs/improvements that needed to be made to bring the home up to code. This added cost, but was necessary and appreciated."
