"We have used Shelton many times for both interior and exterior painting. They have even Stained our deck and the trim around our windows after having them replaced. We are never disappointed. This last time they painted the kitchen, Dinning room, Living room and hallway. There was some patch work that needed to be done from some holes etc....Area is open and we did two different colors. They finished in one day. It is beautiful. They prep and protect the bigger items that couldn't be moved out of the rooms. Cleaned up after themselves. They even vacuumed behind the TV stand that normally doesn't get moved. The workers are great. Highly recommend."

"I had just bought a house in Santa Fe that desperately needed new paint throughout to brighten the interior. There was just over a week between close and when I'd be arriving with my furniture. Several larger painting companies were booked into early next year. I found Harald on Angi-- he gave me a fair estimate and *guaranteed* he could do the whole job in a week. He started the morning after close and worked every day to get it done, even applying two coats to most walls. He was particularly adept at finding the right color that would brighten the walls/ceilings while still speaking to the stained wood doors and trim. The new paint has made a world of difference, the house looks and feels so much better. I would recommend Harald to anyone looking for someone reliable who does good quality work."

Customers say: Super punctual

"Al was very responsive and good to work with. He suggested and offered to paint a sample of our color on our house beforehand, which he did. This worked out well because we changed our mind on the color after we saw it on the house. This last minute change was no issue for Al and he painted with our new color. Although Al wasn't here during most of the work, he had a crew of 5-6 doing the work, he kept in contact with us and stopped by to check on the work. The crew worked very quickly and appears to have done a thorough job. When I asked them to paint some trim on our garage white and some our selected green, the crew member responded, "No problem, what ever color you want." Al did do a final walk through and made sure the painting was good and the clean-up was done."

"Hired this company to help update my kitchen cabinets. The owner was very good to work with, very accommodating and the crew were amazing! They kept the areas around them cleaned up and respected the home. The cabinets turned out incredible. Very nice finish, they look like glass they are so perfect! Added 2 rooms to be painted which both were done timely and again clean and professional and last had them update our wood fence. Needed to be pressure washed, stained and sealed. Again a great job done. No complaints. Would highly recommend this company for any needs you are needing around the house. Hard to find professional, clean and all around good people and this company had it all! Will be using them again in the future."

"It went very well! The painters showed up every day and on time. They did exterior window wood trim and sashes. They also did a great job with the shutters. Jerry suggested we repaint our faded cranberry shutters. It looked so good after repainting the shutters on the sunny side of the house, we had them all done. They also did a great job on our two wood doors that needed to be sanded, stained and varnished. Pete and Henry also worked ho*** ** our wood trim around the interior windows. The trim was a mixture of woods and a mix of stains. Thank you for a great job!"

"Cameron did a superior job on our deck painting. There were lots of challenges with the shortage of paint, height of the deck above ground, and inclement weather. He was persistent, reliable and had excellent communication skills. We are very pleased with his honesty and work ethic."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Hiring a contractor or professional deck refinisher is the best way to ensure your deck is properly stained. They have the expertise, tools, and supplies to do the job quickly and efficiently. However, staining a deck is a manageable task for most homeowners, and doing the job yourself can save money. Just keep in mind that DIY staining is a long process requiring physical strain, so it may not be the best option for everyone.

The general consensus is that two coats of stain are required and since the cedar is siding, a third coat of sealant is always a good idea. This helps protect the wood and stain, so you won’t need to resand and restain for at least a decade. Each stain after the first will darken the wood, so be aware of that when choosing a colored stain.

Generally, these steps are included in exterior house painting:

  • Prepping and protecting the areas not being painted

  • Scraping away loose paint

  • Cleaning off dirt, grease, and debris

  • Caulking gaps and openings

  • Priming with a quality paint primer

  • Painting the prepared areas, including trim and accents with chosen paint finish

  • Adding a second coat

  • Cleaning up the site and disposing of tape, plastic, and drop cloths

The best type of paint for concrete exterior surfaces like concrete porches, steps, or walkways is high-quality exterior-grade paint with strong weather resistance. Acrylic latex blends with tiny anti-slip particles will help create an anti-slip coating for your concrete porch. This type of paint will stand up best to the elements, especially rain, snow, and ice. An exterior epoxy will also help strengthen your concrete porch.

Yes, staining or sealing a cedar deck or fence is highly recommended to extend its lifespan, typically by five to 10 years. While cedar is naturally resistant to mold and mildew, it can still fall victim to moisture, sun exposure, and rot over time. Applying a treatment creates a protective shield that helps prevent splintering, fading, and decay, preserving the wood's strength and appearance. A combination stain and sealer often provides the best protection, as it soaks into the wood grain rather than just sitting on top. This offers superior defense against UV damage and rot and lasts longer than a sealer alone. To maintain the wood's natural look, consider using a near-translucent stain. You should plan to reapply the stain or sealer every two to three years.
