"Great company and would use it again for our next big project. Had a shower replacement and a few other minor things done? Roughly about $7,500. Started promptly and got the project done in a reasonable timeframe!"

"We had a great experience working with Trident. From the initial meeting to discuss and plan our shower replacement, to the demo and installation day that took place well within the promised timeframe, all of the employees that we worked with were very professional. The customer service was outstanding and the project turned out absolutely great. Uwe and Devon were a pleasure to work with on the front end, and Jose did a phenomenal job on the installation. We are very happy we chose Trident for our project!"

"We've done business with many of the plumbers in the Rochester, MN area, some good some very bad, but there's only one I would call great. In my opinion Caleb from Felton Plumbing is as good as it can get. It started with a cracked slab in our basement and somewhere under it was a broken grey water drain. Caleb came in and gave us what I thought was a more than reasonable quote to replace the entire 50 year old system. We hired a separate concrete contractor to come in to remove the old broken slab and to expose the drain line. Turns out the line was not where we had been told it was (by a different plumber). We had to reroute most of the line. Despite this, Caleb came in and gave us a far better system than the one being replaced and at price substantially lower than the one we had agreed to. Caleb is a wonderful guy and a truly great plumber."

Bathtub Replacement questions, answered by experts

The water supply lines run underneath the bathtub. These two pipes deliver cold and hot water to the bathtub—the cold water comes from the main water supply, and the hot water comes from the water heater. The pipes are made from copper, cream-colored plastic CPVC, or red and blue PEX tubing.

A standard bathtub can be used for soaking, but they tend to be shallower (between 15 and 18 inches deep). A soaking tub is designed to be deep enough to totally submerge yourself in the water (about 20 and 24 inches deep). Additionally, most soaking tubs are freestanding, while regular bathtubs come in various styles with drop-in, surround, and wall-mounted options available.

Yes. Common materials for Roman tubs are acrylic, fiberglass, cast iron, and stone resin. The choice you make can depend on various factors, including weight, cost, durability, style, heat retention, and aesthetics. Ultimately, it really depends on your space to determine the best option.

If your bathtub is in overall good shape with minor scratches, discoloration, or just general wear and tear, it's best (and less expensive) to refinish it.

If your tub has large cracks, is leaking, or is otherwise severely damaged, we recommend replacing it with a new bathtub. Refinishing a bathtub can only fix superficial problems, so these issues will still be present or reappear after a refinishing.

Whether replacing a bathtub with a shower affects your home's value depends on several factors, with the most significant being whether it's the only tub in the house. Removing the sole bathtub can lower a home's value because many prospective buyers, particularly families with young children or pets, require at least one.

However, a tub-to-shower conversion can also increase home value. A modern walk-in shower is often seen as an upgrade in a secondary bathroom and can be a desirable feature for its accessibility and style, appealing to older homebuyers or those without children. The overall impact is also influenced by your local real estate market and its typical buyer demographic.

If your bathroom layout allows, installing both a freestanding bathtub and a separate shower can be an ideal solution that appeals to the widest range of potential buyers.
