"Michelle did a great job with double checking all the specs for the material order and helping me select a color for the pre-stained interior doors and mouldings to blend the old with the new of our remodel project, and Justin did a fantastic job on the install. In addition to installing the doors and hardware, every door has a stop! Great attention to detail, ownership of their work, and generous with their time!"

"We are very happy with our new cabinets! It was great working with Dmitry and his team. Dmitry takes so much pride in his work. Dmitry was responsive to changes in plans and installed the cabinets even before we expected. We love our new cabinets!"

"Nick and his team did an amazing job with our new deck, and we could not be happier! He was very responsive, punctual, and incredibly skilled. The quality and craftsmanship are top-notch, and the attention to detail is impressive. He is known as our neighborhood "deck guy", but even so, we've already had neighbors ask who built it. We would highly recommend Nick for any project!"

" My poor quality side chair, lacking any support in the seat, letting the entire center of the seat drop down when someone sat in it, came back with perfection to every detail, and the support structure he gave made this into a very different chair! Dedicated to his Craft, and reasonable in his prices! I heard of him through Next Door with a recommendation from another happy customer. I HIGHLY recommend him and his delight in pleasing each client! Has customers from outstate and other states who ship their items to him for repeat work. I will add a photo of my finished chair + roll pillow! PS And I agree with the others who have stated that he is very personable with dedication to having you be pleased with his work! "As many of you know--finding a reputable home improvement company can be quite a challenge. We had some major projects to do in our yard and initially reached out to multiple companies requesting bids on building a 40 x 10 foot pergola, repairing a cedar fence and staining another major structure in our yard. Our experience in contacting home improvement companies was so disappointing. Inaccurate bids, no shows, and people showing up that presented themselves as home improvement companies but didn’t know what the heck they were doing. The only company that took the time to provide frequent consultation, accurate estimates, multiple visits to our property and consistent follow-up was Twin City Handyman! The entire staff was attentive to our needs and the projects were well done and completed on time. A big shout out to Darren, Kathy, Cory and Johnny and other staff members who assisted in completing our projects for their expertise and attention to detail. We highly recommend this company for all of your home improvement needs. Now, other members of our family are using TCH for their projects as well! Thanks TCH for a job well done. It was a pleasure working with you."

Woodworking questions, answered by experts

Building involves setting foundation posts, framing with durable wood, adding roofing support, and protecting from elements with water-resistant finishes.

Tipping contractors, builders, or general contractors is not customary or expected. Unlike many service professions where tipping is built into the payment structure, construction professionals typically charge a full rate for their services. However, you may choose to tip a worker for exceptional service, such as if they go above and beyond, stay late to meet a deadline, or work on a holiday weekend. Before offering a tip, it's a good idea to ask about the company's policy, as some prohibit their employees from accepting gratuities. If you want to show your appreciation for a job well done without giving a cash tip, consider writing a positive online review or offering to serve as a reference for potential new customers.

Most contractors do not charge for meetings, but it can depend on the project, mainly if it includes detailed consultations or project planning. For general estimates, homeowners shouldn't expect to be charged. Always ask up front about meeting fees to avoid surprises and ensure you know what’s included in the process.

While carpenters and woodworkers perform similar tasks, their focus differs. A carpenter is typically responsible for the structural woodwork involved in construction, such as framing, installing sheathing, hanging kitchen cabinets, and installing trusses. In contrast, a woodworker handles more intricate and custom projects, like building custom furniture, installing wainscoting, and creating detailed interior trim and moldings. Based on these definitions, many woodworkers can perform the tasks of a carpenter, but it's always best to discuss your specific project with a professional to ensure they have the necessary skills.

Board and batten is a type of wainscotting that uses wider boards that are placed vertically, and it has a much more rustic aesthetic than wainscotting. Common wainscotting styles are raised-panel, flat-panel, and beadboard. Wainscotting is more intricate and will typically use more elegant, subtle trims compared to the more farmhouse-inspired boards of board and batten styles.
