"Jeremy showed up right on time. He cleaned the carpet so quietly and efficiently even our normally high strung dog didn't notice him much. He was up front about the things that could and couldn't be fixed and knowledgeable about cleaning carpet. We even had Pad Injection done at the site of a couple of really bad pet soiling areas. The whole house smells nice and clean now, and the carpets look great. There were a few spots that couldn't be gotten totally clean due to abuse on our part (really we should vacuum more often) but it looks fantastic. He took extra time at the end with his UV light to look for any remaining pet stains."

The method of carpet cleaning recommended by most carpet manufacturers is hot water extraction, which is more commonly (though slightly incorrectly) known as steam cleaning. In the hot water extraction method, hot water is essentially sprayed on the carpet with cleaning agent and then sucked back into the machine, along with any dirt that was on the carpet. "Soap" or shampoos are not the main cleaning agent because they tend to leave residues even when thoroughly rinsed. These residues can cause the carpet get/appear dirty again faster. \n \nI am working with and purchasing equipment from a carpet cleaner who is semi retired and has over 40 years of experience in the business.

Carpet Cleaning FAQs, answered by experts

You can clean vomit stains out of a carpet by first rehydrating the stain with a solution of warm water and mild detergent. Allow the solution to penetrate the stain and break up the dried material. Afterward, blot the stain to remove it. Don’t rub, as this can damage carpet fibers and push the stain deeper. Deodorize with a vinegar solution once the stain is completely gone.

Generally, it’s recommended that you vacuum your carpet once per week and steam clean them every six to 12 months. If you have children and pets, you might wish to steam clean more frequently to remove stains and wear-and-tear. Consider steam cleaning carpet every 6 months in these scenarios.

Yes, vinegar is a popular DIY carpet stain remover that can get ink out of carpeting. Try saturating the ink stain with undiluted vinegar and blotting it until the stain is lifted. If this doesn’t work, try rubbing alcohol as a plan B.

Depending on your type of carpet, a wet/dry vacuum is a great final step to removing blood stains, but it will only help after you’ve used another method to pull out the bulk of the stain. A good option is to use a wet cleaning method, then apply baking soda to the stain, and then follow that by vacuuming thoroughly. Remember that this vacuum type does not work on all carpet types. Wool can shrink with this method, so always check the cleaning instructions from your carpet’s manufacturer.

DIY is possible for small or synthetic rugs. Professional services are recommended for delicate or antique rugs.
