"We replaced the windows in our 1933 home through the services of MadCity Windows. From the initial contact with their sales representative to final installation, the company provided top notch professional work. With the draft from the old windows and the cold of the glass, we are already saving on our energy bills. Our house had old, large windows, so they had to be custom made. As an industrial designer and interior designer, we find our windows to be of excellent quality."

"Our house was built in 1962 - the original windows still remained until All Craft replaced them in October, 2021. Gone are the cracked frames! Gone are the cloudy windows! Gone are the "hard to close the windows tightly so they needed to be taped shut" to keep out the winter winds? The new Soft Lite vinyl windows are a much needed improvement to the comfort level in our home. The windows look great. They silence outside noises. They stop all traces of drafts. And most importantly, they improve the curb appeal 100%. We are pleased and recommend All Craft as your next home improvement choice."

"Our project was actually a crawlspace encapsulation. We have a lake cabin that was built in the 1960's. It had a dirt floor in the crawlspace with bare block masonry foundation walls. It also had old, damp batt insulation that was falling down from the joist spaces. American Waterworks came in, removed the old insulation (a nasty job!), laid down a 2 layer moisture barrier system and spray foamed the foundation walls and rim joist area. I can't believe what a difference this has made to our air quality, much warmer floors. We used to have to wipe down the windows every morning during the winter because of condensation. Not any more! I would highly recommend this company if you have the same needs!!"

"This is a routine service, usually costing around $60 and done in your driveway by a mobile technician. It is also covered without a deductible by most auto insurance policies. You can save a lot by dropping the glass coverage on your policy, but you'll then need to cover these repairs yourself.
For cheapskates like me, they offer a coupon for A List members. If you make an appointment to bring the car to their shop at 8AM, before the technician leaves on his rounds, they do it for $40. It takes about 15 minutes. Great deal for me ($20 savings) and it saves them at least that on travel. Win, win. Needless to say, I've saved way over $40 on glass coverage over the years.
Results vary depending on the nature of the chip, but mine is virtually invisible. Best of all, they replace your windshield for free if the chip spreads into a crack, which is very unlikely because the resin is at least as strong as the original glass.

Windows questions, answered by experts

If your windows are drafty, fogging up between panes, or hard to open or close, it might be time for a replacement. Unexplained increases in your energy bills, rotting frames, broken seals, and noticeable noise from outside can also indicate it’s time for new windows. In addition, if you find yourself frequently needing to repair your windows, it’s probably more cost-effective in the long run to replace them.

Window capping costs between $1 and $2 per linear foot. Since your average window size is 24 by 36 inches, you’re looking at 10 linear feet in total, or $10 to $20 per window. Labor adds another $30 to $100 per hour to the project. If you have custom windows, you’ll spend more to have your windows capped. Fiberglass tends to cost more than vinyl and aluminum, while vinyl costs the least but has the shortest lifespan and may have a higher long term cost.

Typically, a bay window is, at minimum, 42 inches wide. That said, you can always design a custom bay window that is smaller—box bay windows are usually less than three feet in width and are ideal for smaller spaces.

Egress windows are typically required for basements with habitable space or living quarters. Not all basements or lower levels require egress windows. However, egress windows are required in homes with living spaces such as bedrooms and living rooms in a basement. The International Residential Code and International Building Code require sleeping rooms to have a specific size egress window. Check your local building codes to confirm the requirements in your area.

Yes, home appraisers look at your windows when appraising your property to determine the market value of your home. They’ll factor in the type of windows, quality, condition, whether or not there are screens covering the windows, frame materials, size, insulation, and more to come up with an unbiased property assessment.
