"The whole process was very professional and smooth. Everything was explained in detail up front and the work took less time than anticipated. Brandon, Rich, and Armstrong (our crew) were extremely friendly and professional and made sure we were 100% satisfied before they left. They were very thorough and went above and beyond in checking over previous problem areas with my wife."

"Used American Waterworks to lift and level a front sidewalk that had settled over time. Company was very responsive as I worked through the planning and quoting process, and the price was better than 2 other companies. Appointment window was communicated in advance and they showed up right on time, did a quick and thorough job, and left the work site clean after. Recommend!"

"We had our exterior front door and side window removed and a brand new set installed. We also had all of our interior closets and doors replaced; they handled everything from painting them, to install and trimming. We also had our windows reframed and trimmed. They did an amazing job! They had to custom build some closet frames for us as well as fit the trim in some places where it was too tight. All of the woodworking looks amazing and the craftsmanship was perfect. Every trim is cut perfectly and even, our doors are all hung straight. Our doors and trim were a mess previously, they did an amazing job! I could not recommend them enough! They even installed all of our door knobs for us. We’ll definitely be using them for future wood jobs!"

"Easy to work with, contacted my insurance company while I was on the line with them and got all the details done quickly.  Provided service as agreed upon - showed up when expected, everything works well.  The price was less than I would have expected to replace a windshield.  Bottom line is that I'd definitely use them again.

Window Door Contractors questions, answered by experts

Typically every 10-15 years or whenever they show signs of wear and tear.

Window screen repair costs an average of $310, with a typical range of $100 to $480. The final price depends on several factors, including the window size, accessibility, screen type, whether the frame needs replacement, and especially the screen material.

The cost of window screen materials varies widely based on durability and features:

  • Fiberglass: $35–$200

  • Aluminum: $50–$300

  • Copper: $90–$850

  • Stainless Steel: $45–$400

  • Brass: $100–$900

  • Solar: $55–$850

  • Security: $100–$1,000

  • Vinyl: $25–$120

Costs also differ by screen type. For instance, a prefabricated screen might cost only $40, moveable screens typically run $25 to $75, and retractable screens range from $300 to $900. To save money, you can choose more affordable materials like vinyl or fiberglass, opt to rescreen instead of replacing the entire frame, and have multiple screens repaired at once to reduce labor costs.

Screen repair is always worthwhile, as tears and holes in your windows and door screens are unsightly and allow pests and debris into your home, rendering the screen useless. The faster you repair your screens, the faster you can open your windows and doors freely to let the fresh air in. Consider repairing multiple door and window screens during one appointment with a screen repair technician to make the investment and labor costs worth it.

If you’d rather repair your screen door mesh than replace it, you can patch it. Purchase a mesh patch for screen doors with small holes or tears, especially if the mesh is pretty new. Hardware stores and websites sell mesh patches that are easy to apply with an adhesive or a warm hair dryer. Keep in mind that repairs won’t look as aesthetically pleasing in most cases as a full replacement.

If your door has interchangeable inserts, you’ll likely want to swap the glass out for a screen during the summer months. The process to do so will vary by door, but you’ll follow these general steps: First, use a flathead screwdriver to pop out the retainer strips—the plastic strips running down both long (and sometimes all four) sides of the door. Then gently pull them out by hand. Carefully remove the glass insert from the door and replace it with the screen. Finally, push the plastic retainer strips back into place, working from top to bottom.
