"Elite Finish Painting removed wallpaper and repainted a bathroom for us. Elite Finish Painting also repaired and repainted the dining room ceiling after a plumber had cut holes in it to get at a clogged pipe. For both the bathroom and the dining room, they were professional and meticulous about their work. They were always on time and completed the work in the time-frame they quoted."

"Everything was done better and faster than I expected! They were very knowledgeable about paints and the process. They even took on a few extra projects I needed painted such as some exterior cement wall and our porch swing. Very kind and professional!"

"Bishop painting team was highly skilled at matching and replacing rotten/damaged trimwork on my 120-year old home. Their painting is also meticulous. They color-matched and used the highest quality paint. They cleaned up their worksite (my deck and yard) every evening before going home. I'm highly satisfied and would recommend Mr. Bishop and his team."

"The team did an impressive job on the prep work filling holes, caulking, getting rid of hornet nests that I didn't even know existed, and pointed out an ant problem to me. I was impressed on their thorough preparation which is key for all good paint jobs. My house is 1970 with red wood siding, they took care on one side to add an extra coat because the wood is so dry and they wanted it to look even. Summer is busy and rain can cause delays so it took a little time to get them here, but that is to be expected with outdoor work and I was willing to be flexible with the timeline. The team was courteous and Dennis was very patient and helpful during the color picking phase. My house looks like new and I've had many compliments from neighbors. I would hire them again and recommend their work.

Wallpapering questions, answered by experts

Painting over wallpaper is an efficient way to cover it if it’s in decent shape. Before painting over wallpaper, make sure the surface is clean and smooth. You may have to remove minor problem areas, such as lifted seams or small peels, with a sheetrock knife or putty knife. Add a latex- or oil-based primer to keep moisture at bay before painting. You’ll likely need two coats of paint to cover the area.

Textured or patterned vinyl wallpaper designs are the best option for hiding imperfections. Embossed designs or faux finishes like brick, wood, or linen textures are especially effective at camouflaging dents, cracks, or uneven surfaces. Avoid smooth, shiny finishes, as they can highlight flaws rather than conceal them.

The color of the paint, its opacity, and the depth of the texture on the paper all affect how many coats of paint you need to apply to paintable wallpaper. You'll need at least two coats of paint to ensure even coverage. Don’t be surprised if you need to apply three coats if the embossing is very deep or if you use a dark color.

There can be too much of a good thing when it comes to accent walls, so avoid creating one in every room in your house. Some rooms, like bathrooms and kitchens, don’t naturally lend themselves to accent walls, so it’s best to skip them there. Of course, your home should reflect your own sense of style, so if accent walls in multiple rooms appeal to you, there’s no hard-and-fast rule forbidding it.

While peel-and-stick wallpapers require no time to cure, the adhesives for other types of papers will take a day or two to dry and up to three weeks to fully cure. The differences are the type of paper, the type of adhesive, and the humidity and temperature in the space.
