"The representative for the company came on Jan. 8th as agreed on.  He called to see if he could come earlier which was fine with me. He was in the house for a total of 40 minutes cleaning and checking the fire place and chimney.  He explained that there were some flaws in the fireplace box that need tuck pointing.  He also said that I would need to add a chimney cap.  He described a build up in the chimney shelf that is very hard to remove and he said it would be done when he comes back to do the other work if I hire him to do that.  He did say that he could do the work within a week and it would take about four hours.  That was good.  He also explained that there is a danger in using the fireplace as it is and told me that if I do not make the improvements I need to make sure that there is ventilation in the room to avoid headaches caused by burning logs.  i appreciated all this information.  
My reaction at this time is mixed.  He told me things I needed to know.  I am glad for this.  My chimney is old and needs some repair.  If he had come when I first made the contract, I might feel differently.   It would help me if the company would say, whatever you spend on our cleaning service will factor in to the cost of any repairs we may need to make.

"Tom Larson showed up exactly on time to do the estimate on the work. The estimate was acceptable and I notified him the next day to go ahead. Tom is very personable and easy to work with. He scheduled the work for April 21-22 from 8:30 am to 4pm. He called the first day to say he would be about an hour late as he needed to stop and pick up some of the materials on the way. When he arrived, he went right to work checking at every significant step to be sure it was what we wanted. I asked him to add the removal of the gas grill and he agreed for a very small increment. He finished the work up on the second day exactly as he said he would. Everything was done very well and he double-checked to be sure I was satisfied."
