"Very well. Ben did a wide variety of repairs, from installing curtain rods to fixing a hundred year old medicine cabinet. We are pleased with all his work. He cleaned up any mess and was very pleasant and professional. We will be calling on him again and recommending him to friends."

Customers say: True professional

"Dan built a new composite deck for us and did a wonderful job. 16x14 screened and 8x14 not enclosed. He worked with us to come up with the initial design and came back with a quote in short order after making a couple different visits to our house. His price offered the best value of the people we had bid on the job. He pretty much does the whole job by himself! (he doesn't do electrical or gutters, but did do low-voltage) He gave a 6-week estimate to finish the job and came in a few days before that. He showed up pretty much every morning rain, snow or shine, including some super-cold spring mornings! He was accommodating to the couple of change requests we made during the process, and the finished product has received rave reviews from friends and family. Top-notch quality and attention to detail, and it's a sturdy and attractive addition to our house! He has an easy-going personality, is easy to work with and we would definitely call Dan again for any future projects!"

"As many of you know--finding a reputable home improvement company can be quite a challenge. We had some major projects to do in our yard and initially reached out to multiple companies requesting bids on building a 40 x 10 foot pergola, repairing a cedar fence and staining another major structure in our yard. Our experience in contacting home improvement companies was so disappointing. Inaccurate bids, no shows, and people showing up that presented themselves as home improvement companies but didn’t know what the heck they were doing. The only company that took the time to provide frequent consultation, accurate estimates, multiple visits to our property and consistent follow-up was Twin City Handyman! The entire staff was attentive to our needs and the projects were well done and completed on time. A big shout out to Darren, Kathy, Cory and Johnny and other staff members who assisted in completing our projects for their expertise and attention to detail. We highly recommend this company for all of your home improvement needs. Now, other members of our family are using TCH for their projects as well! Thanks TCH for a job well done. It was a pleasure working with you."

Deck Repair questions, answered by experts

Some elevated decks require stairs that lead to the ground level per the local fire codes in some municipalities. In other regions, a staircase is an optional feature that can increase accessibility and convenience for homeowners who want ground-level access to their deck. Additionally, a staircase is necessary if your home doesn't have an existing door leading to the deck.

While experienced DIYers may take on the challenge, hiring a licensed professional is often the best route, especially for larger or elevated structures. A local deck contractor is typically the best pro for the job, as they have specialized experience and are knowledgeable about local building codes, ensuring your deck is built safely and designed to last. Other professionals who can build a deck include general contractors and carpenters, who may be more readily available in some regions.

Whether to paint or stain a deck depends on your personal preference for appearance and budget. Stain provides a natural look with a range of undertones, is typically less expensive, and may only require one coat, but it does not last as long as paint. Paint offers a sleeker finish with a virtually unlimited color palette. Both options will protect your deck from outdoor elements like rain, snow, and general wear and tear.

Many people say the best composite decking is Trex, TimberTech, or Fiberon. These brands have formulated composite deck boards to withstand the elements and hold up over time. Each offers a range of product lines varying in durability, price, and appearance. Compare their different composite decking offers for cost, looks, and features before deciding on a product.

Finding a reputable deck builder should start with speaking with a local company and asking for samples of past work and references. You can review the company’s workmanship and speak with past customers to learn what the customer service was like throughout the process. It’s also a good idea to read online reviews and check the Better Business Bureau (BBB) website to see if the company has a history of customer complaints. If you can get a referral from a family member or friend, that’s another great option.
