"After 20+ years of service, the roofing and associated appurtenances on our townhomes were showing signs of deterioration due to extreme weather and normal aging. As a result, the association board deemed it advisable to replace the roofs as soon as possible. After an exhaustive bid review and interview process with several roofing contractors, the HOA Board selected First Choice Exteriors as the successful contractor based upon: • Their extensive experience with large roofing projects, and townhome associations, • Their overall industry knowledge and experience, • Perceived provider quality as verified from reference testimonials, • Proposal quality and lowest “evaluated” cost, • Their perceived ability to deliver on all aspects of the project, • Their Availability/schedule, and finally, • Their flexibility/reliability as verified from reference testimonials. The scope of the project awarded to First Choice Exteriors included replacement of the roofing materials and roof appurtenances for the properties 15 buildings (68 total units), replacement of weather damaged windows and/or patio doors associated with 34 different units on the property, replacement of 38 skylights, and finally, the removal and replacement of the gutter systems. The committed schedule was approximately 4 weeks subject to favorable weather conditions. It is not an overstatement to say that the Board and the homeowners were impressed with the way the project was executed. From the very start, the First Choice staff was extremely well organized, sensitive to the homeowners’ needs, and fully engaged. There were 3 full time project managers on site managing the workers and interfacing with the workers and homeowners as necessary to address all construction issues and homeowner access/egress during construction. Dave Mack, Alex Pedersen, and Preston Willier, our 3 Project Managers, were seasoned and knowledgeable resources with excellent communication skills truly facilitating the conduct of work and communication with the homeowners. The crews performing the actual roof replacement were on the job from approximately 6:30am each morning (weather permitting) and worked tirelessly until after 7:00pm to keep the job on schedule despite a few weather related delays. During the bid process, bid solicitors are often promised “everything” to garner the contract. I can honestly say First Choice met all of the selling points they identified to sell the Board on their award. The quality of the work performed and attention to detail was beyond reproach, the crew cleaned up the grounds each and every evening before leaving the jobsite(including magnet sweeps of affected landscaping, walkways and driveways for nails), the project and homeowners were well managed by the site managers, schedules were achieved, and First Choice’s co-owners, Mark Willier and Mike McCain were fully engaged on the project, visiting the job site regularly to communicate with the Board and review project progress. In summary, First Choice Exteriors has demonstrated that they are a very qualified supplier, completing every aspect of our roof replacement project in a competent, and quality/customer centric manner, and I would recommend use of this organization without reservation for any of the services they offer. "They originally put on the screen on my porch. Some of the boards they reattached fell off almost immediately. One board was not attached at all. More recently, our dog passed and I asked if they would come out and fix the screen on that door and reattach some boards that are off. Their response was that they would notify me the next time they are "in the area". Really? Been a few weeks, nothing."

"My Midwest Roofing Review I held off from writing a review for almost two years. I really wanted to give these guys a chance at redemption, but it was futile. I first worked with Greg who said he tried to get me the most out of my insurance company payout for a new roof which I do appreciate. Unfortunately, things from there quickly went downhill. The first thing to go wrong was them scheduling a time to do our roof without running it past us first. We had to call them to change the date but they didn’t let the crew know. So the crew with all their equipment and workers show up at the crack of dawn on a Monday morning and we have to explain to them that we had changed the time (even though we never scheduled it in the first place). Then a few months after our new roof was installed, I get a threatening letter from Jorian saying they were going to put a lien on our house because they didn’t receive payment. This is after not hearing a peep from them for months. So I told them I was approved for the roof loan months ago. He did find it later but I received no apology. The checks we got from the insurance company were late because we didn’t realize they were sent to us. I thought they were sent directly to the company (my bad). But like I said..I didn’t hear a word from them until we were suddenly threatened with a lien. I re-requested the checks from my insurance company and sent them to Midwest right away. Then all five of our new skylights started to leak. TWICE. They had someone come out and “fix” them but they still leaked so we had to have them out yet again. I have video footage of it in case we take this to an attorney. We’re waiting to see if they start leaking for a third time [eye roll]. So with 5 terrified cats 3 roofing appointments was a huge hassle. We now have water damage on our ceiling that needs to be fixed. Again never got an apology. So a few more months go by and I contact Greg to have someone come out and fix the damage from a separate incident (not Midwest’s fault). I get a friendly reply back saying he’ll have someone contact me. Didn’t hear anything for over a week so I text him back and I get, “who’s this?” with a very cold reply after I reminded him saying someone will contact me. I guess that was the final straw. I told him to forget it. Finally got angry enough to write this. This has got to be one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had with a company. Every person I talked to was rude or indifferent. Still pretty annoyed about it, tbh."

"Received bids from four contractors. Topside and one other came in within a few dollars of one another and about 10% to 15% less than the other two bids. I ultimately went with Topside because I liked the feeling of having a constant point of contact with a smaller company vs. project getting handed from sales to scheduling to production departments at a larger company. Andrew came out to make the measurements for the bid, coordinated supply drop-off, and was on site the day-of to check in on the progress. Rob (the owner) stopped by that evening to inspect the completed job. The work was scheduled promptly and completed professionally. Would happily chose them again if we have other exterior work done in the future."
