"We hired Steve to remove a tricky tree and trim some tops, which he did flawlessly. The service was great, the price was very fair, and the cleanup was excellent. We have more projects in line for Bush's Best Tree Service to do and will absolutely work with them again."

"Russ and Scott did a fantastic job in cutting down and trimming several trees that were very close to my existing garage. They did it safely and quickly and did an outstanding job of ground cleanup of the dropped trees and limbs. They were absolutely great to work with and I would definitely use them again in the future. In fact, I have already referred them to a co-worker who is in need of some tree removal services."

"Colin and his crew have been in Iowa since the day after the August 10th derecho that caused widespread damage. I was looking for a company to help remove a lot of debris from downed trees and to remove broken trees. He showed up with his crew the same day. They worked nonstop all day. He took great care to cause as little damage as possible to the yard. The entire team was professional and efficient. We were so impressed with Colin that we are having them back to take out the rest of the trees that we had originally planned to wait on. If you need any kind of tree care, removal, high risk removal, tree cabling, landscaping, yard cleanup, you cannot go wrong by hiring this company. I highly recommend them."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Aside from removing dead or diseased branches, you should prune your trees somewhere between every one and three years. Some people—particularly commercial farmers—prune their apple trees yearly to produce higher yields. This is the best way to promote tree health. That said, the average homeowner can get away with hard-pruning their mature apple tree every other year or every three years.

Transplanting a palm tree is a similar process except for a couple of important differences. First, their root ball doesn’t need to be as large as a “true” tree, which makes them a bit easier to dig up and move around. Second, they struggle more with taking root and staying upright in a new location, so it’s important to give them extra support when staking.

Grinding down a tree helps reduce the risk of foundation damage and pests and even helps your home’s curb appeal. Stumps can also be a safety hazard. If grass grows above the stump and someone else mows your yard, they may be in for a rude awakening when they accidentally hit it.

Tree experts don’t advise against digging through tree roots, but instead encourage caution and consultation with a local arborist to make sure you don’t damage the tree’s structure or interrupt its water or nutrient intake. An arborist can recommend specific practices when digging and help prune the roots or dig a trench for utilities with a tool that can remove soil without touching the tree’s roots.

You can use the formula mentioned earlier to calculate the depth of tree roots. Each inch of width of a tree trunk translates to six inches of depth within the root system. Large trees extend anywhere from 2 to 6 feet into the ground, with some magnificent specimens going even deeper.
