"Around the beginning of the year I had them come out to cut down a large ash tree that was showing signs of rot and I didn't want it to break and hit my house. I started the process of getting a quote online and was given a call within and hour and made arrangements for them to come look. They gave me a great quote and was back to get it cut down much faster than any of the others I got a quote from. The guys that did the work were polite, fast, and went above and beyond to get it cut down. I would highly recommend these guys for getting your tree services done."

"Arrived when they said they would. Had two evergreen trees removed. They completed everything including cleanup in a timely matter. The price we agreed on was the price when the project was done. Both gentlemen are very courteous and professional. I will hire them again this fall for some tree trimming that I need done. I could not have asked for anything more from this company."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

It takes anywhere from three to seven years for a stump to decompose on its own. This timeframe can depend on the kind of tree and your climate. The lower to the ground the stump is, the faster it rots. If you kill a tree stump with salt, boiling water, herbicide, light deprivation, or burning, the tree stump decomposes faster.

Tree roots can take weeks to years to die, depending on the method you use. Chemical herbicides take the least amount of time—typically between three and four weeks—while homemade methods, like covering an old stump with leaves, could take between seven and eight years. If you’re unsure which method to use or how quickly you need to act, consulting with a pro is always a good idea.

Generally, you should prune around 20% of an apple tree’s growth—and never more than 30%. This means that if you have a severely overgrown tree, it can take a few seasons to prune it back enough to produce the healthiest fruit.

If you’re dealing with a newly planted or juvenile tree, hold off on pruning beyond the initial shaping. Wait at least a couple of seasons into fruit production since pruning can increase the number of water sprouts and unproductive foliage.

Pruning can impact cold hardiness—but it’s less about the exact temperature and more about temperature variation. Generally, you don’t want to prune trees when there’s a risk of temperatures suddenly dropping from 50 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit to 0 degrees Fahrenheit or below. A tree is most sensitive until 48 hours after it’s pruned.

You can use herbicides to prevent roots from growing without killing the tree itself, however they must be used with caution. Systemic herbicides are absorbed by the root and can kill off problematic roots. However, herbicides can sometimes negatively impact nearby plants, so the solution is best used sparingly.
