They worked with us to make sure that we had proper drainage and a solid base. This work took an additional 2 days and the required excavation created a mess. When they were done the entire area was completely clean and beautiful. The stone work also included a dry stacked wall of the same material. This was suggested by Joel and we are very happy with the result. We now have an entry that we are proud of and everyone compliments us on how how well it looks and functions. - Peterson Excavating & LandscapingJay Paterson was very good throughout the whole project. He communicated well and he neither complicated things nor oversimplified matters. The final bills did not vary from the estimates except in the case of my changing my mind about the truck full of dirt and grass reseeding. I also never felt like I was being sold anything I didn't need. Regarding job #1 this was a forced matter by the city of Duluth making homeowners do this job under penalty of fines. I had received 4 estimates total and all estimates were much more expensive than Peterson Excavating's bids. Also the city inspector was very impressed by the work and very surprised by the price, he stated it was the best he'd seen and most of the jobs he's examined were closer to 60 ft from the house to the sewer not my 240 feet. I have recommended Peterson Excavating to a friend and he had lots of excavating done at his house with great results and a great price
- Upnorth Landscaping DuluthDue to a rainy summer last year, our project got delayed by about 2 months. This was frustrating. Once the work began, they worked quickly and were very professional. We had a couple of miscommunications along the way, but Barry was willing to correct them. We are currently waiting for a fence gate to be repaired and some top soil to be brought in to correct the slope of the yard. My advice would be that you really need to be proactive with your communication. My impression is that Barry has a lot of irons in the fire. It's important to have your plan drawn up so everyone is on the same page and your expectations are laid out in advance. Other than that, their work is excellent and everyone we interacted with was friendly and hardworking

- PATIO TOWNThis summer, I set out to build a raised garden and sitting wall for our patio. I visited the Oakdale store 3 or more times to look at products and displays. After comparing the weathered Ledgestone by Willowcreek to comparable Menards and Home Depot brands, I chose the Ledgestone in the Lakeshore blend and the bullnose blocks for caps - very cool looking and the best value (price + delivery). Generally, the staff at Patiotown was very kind and helpful. The site manager, in particular, shows an interest and passion for these types of projects. The only concern at this point was that some staff could not identify the color of the materials in the outdoor display, and since I was replicating some aspects of the display, I was concerned about whether I was going to guess correctly and buy the product that I wanted. On the 3rd visit, I did connect with someone that new the colors of the products in the display area and I was able to select the desired product with confidence. I purchased the product on a Saturday morning during a promotional event and scehduled delivery for several days later. Unfortunately, the wrong item was delivered due to the cashier entering the wrong product in the register. Fortunately, I decided to work from home that day and quickly discovered the error. The store manager arranged for a second delivery the same day. The downside of having 4 roughly 2-ton pallets moved across my yard 3 times (in, then back out, then back in) via the delivery company's mobile fork truck was that there was more damage to the yard than expected. We now have a permanent depression in a small area that retains water when it rains or the lawn is watered. After conversations with the company's Operations Manager, Patiotown refunded charges for the second delivery. Once the project was complete, I returned a pallet of blocks without any problems

I just didn't realize that a 35x75 foot yard could end up to be almost $5000. I don't have a big yard and I guess the labor was pretty extensive. So I just didn't do anything.

"Eli got in touch with me within one day and scheduled a time to come out and look at our projects that same day. He was friendly and professional. After hearing out our projects, he told us that they were booked pretty far out and that it would likely be a few months before the work could be scheduled. When he saw that the small excavation part of the job was the one thing holding us back from our DIY window well, he offered to get his sledgehammer and break up the concrete then and there. Which he did. It only took him about 10 minutes, but without the right tools that job would have taken us hours. He did not accept any payment. We are very grateful! "I removed the old wall and plants prior to their replacing the two level retaining wall. They showed up and finished when they said they would. There was limited access, so they were not able to use any equipment and all materials were moved by hand or with wheelborrows. There was no damage to the rest of the yard and everything was cleaned up well.
