"LeafFilter doesn't clean gutters, they sell and install their LeafFilter Gutter products and only clean the gutters if you buy their product. I can't even begin to afford their product so I wasn't able to get my gutter cleaned by them."

"Everything went extremely well! We simultaneously had our house trim painted, so Mike (Grand Gutters employee) was able to remove the old gutters before the painters got to work. This was much more difficult than anticipated, but they did the job without complaint or extra charge (which was much appreciated). Once the house was painted, John (the owner) came back to install the new gutters. He also painted and installed downspout leader boxes and decorative brackets. Overall, he was very professional and kept me up to date during the installation. We highly recommend Grand Gutter and would work with them again!

"Was a wonderful experience, and all my questions and observation of the installing wasn't a problem. I had concerns about my down spout being trampled on since it ran along side my trash can placement. Chris installed a hinge so I could lift the piece up and out of the way with ease. He also help me find the right color choice to blend in with my new siding and roof color. I was set on having gutter protection in place. Chris was kind enough to go over all my choices and explain his experience in what has been the best choice to prevent clogging and acorn packing. I haven't had a single problem with my gutters or the screen protection. I highly recommend this company."

"Simply Seamless (Tony and Brian) were two of the most professional and conscientious contractors I have worked with over the decades. It was clear throughout the project that this was an efficient and organized company simply by the condition of their vehicles, the manner in which they treated their tools, their thoroughness in cleaning up the job site each day and how well they worked together. These can be tell tale signs of a competent and professional company with quality character individuals who take pride in their work. Existing gutters had been installed well before we purchased the house and we were not provided with any information on who installed the gutters and when they were installed. Upon purchase, it was not clear to us as the new homeowners , and it obviously escaped the attention of our home inspector, that the gutters were improperly installed. When contacted, Tony and Brian promptly provided an inspection of our situation, diagnosed the problem (gutter was installed incorrectly on the outside of the drip cap and rainwater was flowing down the back of the gutters; additionally, leaks were occurring in virtually every corner because the seams had not been properly sealed). They provided a quote within a couple of hours. Their quote was reasonable and the project was scheduled in a timely manner. The project involved removing the existing gutter, repositioning it under the drip cap, installing drip cap under the shingles on one side of a detached garage, installing a gutter and downspout on the back side of the detached garage where none existed, sealing corners and end caps, installing leaf guard on all of the gutters and, finally, cleaning up all debris from the project when the job was completed. It was a labor intensive project and more difficult and time consuming than installing new gutter. Additionally, Tony and Brian were very friendly, informative and easy to talk to over the course of two days (as stated, the project was more tedious and time consuming than they expected but, nonetheless, they took their time to do the job properly). The Simply Seamless project was.... , well, simply seamless and I would highly recommend them."

Gutter Cleaning questions, answered by experts

If not properly maintained, an underground downspout may damage your home's foundation. A clogged downspout can back up, causing water to pool around the base of your home and seep into the foundation. Regular inspections and maintenance keep your downspout in good working order, preventing damage and protecting your home.

Pressure washing isn’t the only way to clean your gutters. Use a hose and a long-handled brush if you aren’t afraid of a little elbow grease. Alternatively, set up a stable ladder and scrub by hand with a brush. It’s also possible to purchase gutter wand extensions for hoses or a gutter vacuum if you don’t mind the investment. These help clean thoroughly without you having to scale a ladder.

Properly installed gutters should be able to function normally in heavy rains. Allowing water to overflow can cause water damage around your home's basement or foundation. If the overflow is caused by a simple clog, paying a gutter cleaning cost of $125 to $250 may be enough to get the gutters running clear again. If there's a larger issue, you may need to repair or replace your gutters.

The best times of year to clean your gutters are typically in the spring and fall. Cleaning in the fall is crucial for removing leaves and debris that have accumulated, which helps prevent clogs. A spring cleaning ensures your gutters are clear and prepared for seasonal rainfall.

As a general guideline, experts recommend cleaning your gutters at least twice a year. However, the optimal frequency depends on several factors, such as local weather patterns, the type of gutters you have, and the number of trees on your property. If your home is surrounded by many large trees or pine trees, you may need to clean your gutters as often as every three to four months. If you have few or no trees nearby, twice a year is likely sufficient. In some cases, you may need to clean them a couple of times during the fall and spring to keep them clear and allow water to flow freely.

If you want to avoid burying your downspouts, several alternatives can help direct water away from your home's foundation. One option is to connect a rain barrel to your downspout. During a storm, the barrel collects water that you can later use for irrigating your lawn or garden. Another common solution is to install an above-ground downspout extension. This can be done in a couple of ways:

  • Splash Guards: Placing a splash guard, available at most hardware stores, under your downspout can act as a simple funnel to direct water away from the house.

  • Downspout Extensions: You can add an extension to the end of the downspout's elbow to carry water further into your yard. Some extensions are flexible, allowing you to maneuver them around landscaping.

These above-ground solutions are particularly useful if your home has a slab foundation that you cannot dig up. However, they have limitations. An extension may not move water as far from your home as an underground system. More importantly, if your yard slopes back toward your house, these methods will be ineffective, and burying your downspouts remains the best option to prevent potential flooding and water damage.
