"I will definitely recommend Tyler. Being this was his first complete pole barn build, it turned out excellent. 36' x 63' x 14' high. I had set the poles previously and discovered that my math is not as good as it used to be. I helped some but we had to reset the posts, and everything was down to 1/16". It really made a difference when it came time to build the barn. Very trustworthy and always came out when he said he would. Top tier carpenter you won't regret!"

"I rank Landson Construction #1 in the list of contractors we have hired in our 40 years of home ownership. Ari and his team of subcontractors recently completed a challenging remodel of one of our bathrooms--challenging because it is a very small area with limited space. Their finished job looks better than our separate remodel of a larger bathroom completed by one of the big firms that advertises daily on television. Examples: the tile work in our small shower is exceptional, and the vanity/oversized sink is a perfect match that does not dominate the small room. Ari Erickson (no relation to me) offered selections from his preferred vendors, but we had full latitude to shop on our own for all tile and fixtures. He and his subcontractors kept us fully apprised at all stages of the project, arrived promptly throughout the course of the work, responded promptly to our texts and emails, and cleaned up their work area at the end of each day. My highest recommendation: I always seek at least four bids for a major project, but I would forego that process and hire Landson Construction again for future building/remodeling projects, and would encourage friends and family to do the same."

"He did a great job even when our floor was not cooperating. The floating floor looks great. We learned a lot in observing his work and techniques. He answered all of our questions. We would definitely hire him again."

"Nick replaced our old wooden deck with a screen porch and it turned out perfect. He used quality materials and was super easy to work with. I'm confident he could build any deck/screen porch you can imagine. The best part is he charges quite a bit less than other companies!"

" My poor quality side chair, lacking any support in the seat, letting the entire center of the seat drop down when someone sat in it, came back with perfection to every detail, and the support structure he gave made this into a very different chair! Dedicated to his Craft, and reasonable in his prices! I heard of him through Next Door with a recommendation from another happy customer. I HIGHLY recommend him and his delight in pleasing each client! Has customers from outstate and other states who ship their items to him for repeat work. I will add a photo of my finished chair + roll pillow! PS And I agree with the others who have stated that he is very personable with dedication to having you be pleased with his work! Woodworking questions, answered by experts

No, beams are the primary load-bearers for flooring or roofing systems, and they distribute the weight of the structure to your foundational supports, while joists bear far less weight and distribute their loads to the beams. Beams are usually thicker and longer, and they have support posts or foundation walls beneath them for support.

Joists and beams are both part of the flooring system above your basement, with the beams spanning the length of your home and getting support from vertical posts underneath, and joists usually spanning half the width of your home with no support posts underneath. The floor joists provide even support to the subflooring and flooring above, and they distribute that load to the beams. The beams then distribute that load down through the support posts to the foundation.

If you don’t have a power saw with a blade where you can adjust the angle, you could use a miter box and hand saw to make the cuts. The miter box contains wide slots to support the piece of baseboard and other narrow slots to accommodate the blade of the hand saw. However, it’s tough to make non-standard cuts beyond 30 or 45 degrees when using a miter box.

A contract should outline the scope of work, timelines, costs, payment schedule, and materials used for clarity and protection.

There are two ways you can cut trim for doorways: with a miter saw or a table saw. Mitered joints need a 45-degree angle. If you’re unfamiliar with a miter saw, you might want to consider buying extra trim pieces or choosing butted joints instead. One wrong cut, and you’ll need to power up the saw again with a new piece.

Butted joints—also called shaker style—don’t need a 45-degree angle. Instead, your side pieces attach perpendicularly to the header trim and only require a straight cut.
