Customers say: True professional

"Amazing service! Dave was incredibly responsive and knowledgeable. Two of his guys went above and beyond to wallpaper a ceiling in a tight timeline so the rest of our project could stay on schedule. They worked into the night and came back early the next morning, all while doing beautiful work. 10/10! Will recommend them to all my friends!"

"I hired Elite Finish Painting to paint my guest bathroom. They removed a wallpaper border, did appropriate prep work and then painted the walls. The house painters were fair priced, accommodating, efficient and pleasant to work with. They were very careful not to make a mess. In fact they were meticulous. They responded to my requests in a timely fashion. I would highly recommend Elite Finish Painting. I would certainly use their service again."

"Todd's work was excellent. He repaired walls to eliminate cracks and visible sheet rock seam lines. His work was impeccable, and he worked efficiently. He was especially considerate of our cat and dog. He was easy to work with and be around. He lived up to his word - he did all that he said he would, and it was done very well. We would happily rehire or refer him."

"We are very pleased by the work Mel and his crews have done. We initially wanted to repaint the kitchen (we had wallpaper) and the approach Mel suggested worked very well and saved us money. We end up doing more than the kitchen. For the kitchen we decided to go with the faux paint and it looks great (I recommend it). For the rest of the project it was plain color but the paint (Mel took care of this) matched perfect the sample we got (until now, the ones we got from Home Depot never quite match the colors with the sample). They worked very fast and clean. They addressed the few corrections we requested."

"Everything was done better and faster than I expected! They were very knowledgeable about paints and the process. They even took on a few extra projects I needed painted such as some exterior cement wall and our porch swing. Very kind and professional!"

Wallpapering questions, answered by experts

When choosing materials for finishing basement walls, consider factors such as moisture resistance, durability, and fire resistance. Opt for materials specifically designed for basement environments, like moisture-resistant drywall or cement board. Insulation with vapor barriers can help regulate temperature and prevent condensation. Consider using mold-resistant paints or coatings.

Research and consult with experts to select materials that are suitable for your specific basement conditions and intended use. Prioritize quality and compatibility to achieve long-lasting and aesthetically pleasing results.

Wallpaper lasts an average of around 15 years, but there is some variance. The type of wallpaper matters, as vinyl wallpaper tends to last the longest—sometimes 20 years or more—while a peel-and-stick wallpaper, which is the easiest to install for DIYers, will usually only last for around five years. Exposure to high humidity, smoke, and UV rays from sunlight can also limit the lifespan of your wallpaper, as can heavy traffic in the installation area.

Yes, you can apply peel-and-stick wallpaper over wood paneling, but it requires significant preparation for a good result. Peel-and-stick wallpaper has a weaker adhesive than traditional wallpaper and works best on smooth, non-textured surfaces like painted or primed drywall. Because wood paneling is often textured with grooves, any flaws in the underlying surface will likely be visible after application. To prepare the paneling, you must ensure the surface is free of cracks, holes, and protrusions by filling any indentations and sanding rough spots to create a smooth surface. An alternative is to remove the paneling and apply the wallpaper directly to the underlying drywall or plaster, provided it is in good condition.

The pros of wallpaper include its durability and longer lifespan than paint, as well as its versatility. The durability can translate to lower long-term costs for upkeep and replacement, and the versatility means you have more options for customizing rooms in your home. Some downsides include that it’s difficult to remove, it’s not ideal for rooms or areas exposed to high moisture content or sun exposure, and it’s tricky to install. A professional wallpaper hanger can help mitigate these issues, though, by installing it properly and in areas suitable for wallpaper.

Yes, many types of peel-and-stick wallpaper can be used in bathrooms, especially those made of vinyl or polyester. However, its success depends heavily on the level of moisture and ventilation. In bathrooms with good ventilation, such as those with fans, it can be a durable option. Peel-and-stick wallpaper may not adhere as well as traditional wallpaper in very humid conditions. For bathrooms that see a lot of moisture, like a kids' bathroom or a full bath with a steamy shower and poor ventilation, even high-quality peel-and-stick wallpaper is likely to peel over time.
