"Hung did a nice job repairing the damaged wood on the top and bottom of our screen door frame. He reinforced it and attached a new door closer to the screen door and door frame. He also built up the threshold to provide a better door seal."

"They were great they were on time and very efficient. They had to custom built new shutters which they did right on site which another company made it sound like making the shutters was going to be very difficult and expensive. Also they clean up all the old stucco and trim they took off and cleaned up everything when they were done. I was extremely happy with them. Because we were very satisfied with them we are having them give us a quote on replacing our 2 sets of sliders. The work was done July 13th and they finish on July 14th. Also these guys made sure I understood what they would do and were very nice to get to know"

Doors questions, answered by experts

Wood is by no means the only type of front door material on the market. You can also choose from several other options, including:

  • Aluminum: Low-maintenance and affordable, but lacks insulation

  • Fiberglass: Offers excellent insulation and durability for a decent price

  • Glass: Offers beauty but less security or insulation, and a higher price tag

  • Steel: One of the most economical options if you’re looking for affordability, low maintenance, high security levels, and a door that will last

  • Wrought iron: Attractive and secure, but costly and heavy

You can’t gauge the lifetime of a fire door like you could, say, an engine. Fire doors should be checked at least once every six months to ensure there are no signs of degradation like leaks, holes, water damage, termite damage, or anything else that might compromise the functionality of the door’s fire resistance. Check your smoke detectors while you’re at it.

Burglars are kept away from would-be targets for a number of reasons, but of 400 incarcerated burglars interviewed, the most cited reason they’d avoid a property is if there are people inside, followed by seeing officers nearby. Alarms, lights, and noises inside the house can also deter criminals from approaching.

The width of your door jamb should match your wall thickness exactly, so it depends on your wall. For standard door openings, the width is equal to the width of a 2-by-4-inch  stud, plus the width of the drywall on both sides—about 1/2 inch each—which comes out to 4 9/16 inches. Block walls and framed walls that use 2-by-6-inch framing require a door jamb that’s 6 9/16 inches. You should always measure your finished wall thickness to get an accurate width for your door jamb material.

It’s certainly easier to paint a door while it’s still on its hinges, but you may get better results if you remove it from the hinges. Painting a door off the hinges allows you to work on it horizontally, making prep work easier, reducing drips, and allowing undisturbed drying time.
