Customers say: True professional

"I’m caring for my 92 year old widowed Mother who needed a bed frame with headboard footboard with king mattress assembled immediately and damaged vinyl floor tiles replaced in a small bathroom. Tim arrived within 15 minutes of me speaking to him. Tim agreed to do the tasks at a phenomenally low price. The bed assembly was beyond complicated that’s why my Husband and I hired Tim who professionally assembled it even though the directions had crucial screws labeled incorrectly and over 100 pieces. Taking no break and not even accepting the offer for coffee Tim quickly moved onto ripping up the old vinyl tiles in the bathroom and installing 24” X aprox 48” tiles in the bathroom. He did an excellent job and that floor is so beautiful. It’s faux marble with clear caulk which looks so fresh and clean. I am thrilled with Tim’s hard work ethic, polite manners, skilled craftsmanship and trailer full of all the right tools. I plan on using Tim again and already referred him to a Friend."

Kyle ensures the job meets your standards through the process. We have had a shingled roof, siding and stairs done previously by this team, currently scheduled to have a new metal roof put on our barn. Check these guys out for quality job completion!"

"Rob is a consummate professional. He assisted us in discovering and dealing with damage from a leak in our basement wall. Rob made suggestions for the repair which was completed by our waterproofing company. He replaced the dry wall after cutting a one foot high section out of the perimeter of the room for the waterproofing work. Weeks later after the waterproofing was finished, he replaced the dry wall. We painted the walls and he came back to replace the baseboard trim. Rob always kept his appointments for work at our house. If he could not come at the appointed time, he called and set up another time. The work stretched over several months. We were delighted with the results. He did a wonderful job and we would not hesitate to call on him again."

"Very professional, respectful, and friendly. Costs were competitive and better than most estimates I had received. Everything went extremely well. I am also planning to have them replace counters and cupboards, paint walls, revise laundry space, and replace the deck. I would recommend them for any improvements or building services."

"Outstanding. Rick and his team did an amazing job. They communicated through out the whole process. Finished on time even with a humidity challenge, not their fault. The baseboards looked amazing, and you couldn't even see where the walls needed repaired."

"After reading the reviews below I was almost hesitant to call DNA, thinking "nobody can be that good." I was right--they're even better. I'm the reason there's such a gap in recommendations here--I didn't want them lining up jobs with anyone else! I'd been fretting about overdue home maintenance for years, but when a gutter inspector inadvertently dislodged a section of decaying fascia my hand was finally forced. I found this page and gave DNA a call. They were courteous and prompt, coming right out to inspect the problem and give an estimate, which was carefully detailed. The work was swift and perfect. Equally as important, Derek and Alex are the sort of polite, unassuming, conscientious people that one dreams of encountering. From that first day we've moved on to residing the house, completely remodeling the main bathroom, window replacement, AC installation, and a host of other things. This means we are together more often than many families are--obviously employing good, decent people makes a huge difference. They are superlative builders, equipped to handle any project that can be done in or around a house. So far I’ve needed carpentry, siding, plumbing, wiring, and more. Their work is painstaking and of the highest quality. They are also exceedingly patient with a meticulous customer who nevertheless frequently has no idea how to implement--or sometimes, even articulate--what she's thinking of (me). And one who has trouble making choices. I dithered over siding color for days--make that weeks--while they patiently brought out large samples of various colors and tacked them on the house so I could see them in situ. Remodeling is an unending series of such choices, so if they were ever to lose patience, I'd know by now. I could go on and on but this is already too long. Just one more thing: My two dogs can’t wait for DNA to get here each day. One of them is a very active two-year-old terrier mix, and when the weather finally improved this spring, I had Derek and Alex take a break from the home work to patch up a corral fence down at the barn, so I could train and play with my young pup off leash. They did so in a trice (and installed a new gate, and better latches for the barn doors; and mowed the weeds in the corral and then the field path), then Derek thought that Junie, the pup, might like a toybox down there. I thought that was the cutest idea I've ever heard! So he built an open-topped wooden box, affixed to the side of the barn at Junie-height, which has been a resounding success. I cannot recommend these guys highly enough."

"Jacob and his crew at Krustch Renovation were stellar. They provided clear and consistent communication. He asked questions and offered input. His crew painted a full house interior with clean cut lines, and two coats, in four days. he then led a walkthrough and created a punch list to complete any areas needing extra paint. He patched walls and painted the trim. And finally, he painted the cabinets in the kitchen as well. He was kind and honest in his assessment of a quote and delivered a professional service for a fair price and good value."

Pole Barn Builders questions, answered by experts

Whether you should choose a flat roof or a sloped roof depends on your particular situation. Flat roofs tend to be less expensive to install. However, sloped roofs have longer lifespans and stand up better to heavy snow and other inclement weather.

Keep in mind that even a flat roof needs to have a slight slope, usually around 1/2 inch for every foot. If it is completely flat, water will pool and cause damage, either from weight or leakage or rot.

There's no simple answer to which is less costly: wood or metal-framed homes. In most cases, metal building components cost more than wooden ones, while entire metal buildings cost less than wooden versions. However, regardless of the exterior framing or structure, each must meet similar building codes. This means that the costs are about the same, even considering that wood will require more maintenance than metal over time.

Common pitfalls include underestimating the cost of site preparation, overlooking permit and utility fees, and not setting aside funds for unexpected changes. Change orders during construction can disrupt your budget. It’s best to plan a detailed budget, obtain multiple quotes, and include a 10% to 15% contingency fund for unexpected expenses.

The difference between a pole barn and a stick-built barn is in the construction. Large poles in the ground provide support for pole barns. For stick-built barns, 2-by-4 or 2-by-6 lumber (known as sticks) create a frame around load-bearing beams. Stick-built construction is far more popular for residential homes. Pole barns are more cost-effective because they require fewer materials and less labor.

Choose a barn door with an extra two to three inches on either side of the frame. The width of the barn door will depend on the type and placement of your track, but in most cases, an additional inch or two will do the trick.
