"John Gorie was extremely knowledgeable about glass replacement. He was able to successfully work around a few problems he encountered with the removal of the cracked glass (1992 version), and I'm sure it took longer than expected. I was impressed with how carefully he worked (alone, no less), that he cleaned up once work was finished, and I appreciated his keeping me informed of the process both by text and in person. He also worked hard to give me a decent price for the job (and I apologize for my barking dog!) Once the final caulking is done, the door (with the new glass) will look amazing. Thanks, John!"

"The service was great, very courteous service. The worked quickly, and promtly came out for a few service issues, one of the windows cracked. They are about to get another service call however, because our garden window, and the locking mechanisms have a small amount of rust on them. The garden window has rust throughout the frame. No steaming that would indicate leakes in our gas windows, But you can see the rust. One of the windows is hard to open and close too. Probably would investigate fiber glass rather than vinal. Maybe worth the extra cost."

"Crawl space Inspection went fine.  Energy Audit went fine.  Never had any of those services performed, so I really didn't know what to expect as far as how long it would take, what all was involved, etc.  As a result of the energy audit, Brand New Construction recommended adding insulation in my attics, encapsulating my crawl space and spraying closed cell foam in all outside rim joists.  I contracted with them to do this work.  Work was completed 9-12-14 as scheduled and I paid them in full.  One month later, called Brand New Construction and alerted them about rim joist insulation coming away from rim joists in several areas.  Also, alerted them that where they sprayed closed cell foam in inside wall, the wood frame has separated from the foundation block (top of wall).  At the time when work was being completed, I advised Brand New Construction that his worker had sprayed closed cell foam on inside wall, but he said should be okay.  Brand New Construction came out that day and assessed the situation and filled in exposed area on inside wall with cement like caulk and sprayed additional foam in rim joists where foam has separated from rim joist.

Glass Block questions, answered by experts

New glass costs anywhere from $3 to $100 per square foot. More specifically, tempered and insulated glass—a common option for sliding glass doors—costs between $10 and $14 per square foot.

Glass block windows come in various patterns and styles that offer privacy and unique aesthetics. Frosted or textured glass diffuses light and enhances privacy. Wave-pattern glass blocks imitate ocean waves with flowing lines. Ice-glass blocks resemble cracked ice. Fluted glass blocks feature parallel vertical grooves, adding texture and depth. Clear glass blocks, similar to glass Coke bottles, offer transparency with some distortion and may have smooth surfaces or subtle textures, adding visual interest.

Glass block windows typically last for 15 to 30 years, which is slightly less than the 20- to 50-year lifespan of standard windows. You can extend their life by resealing them every few years. Professional installation is also key to ensuring the windows are placed correctly and will function properly for years to come. A professional installer will have the necessary skills, tools, and knowledge to install these features and can identify potential issues like damaged frames or cramped areas during a consultation.

Glass walls are more expensive overall than their brick or drywall counterparts. However, if you need walls for a building with more than two or three stories, glass walls are the more budget-friendly option.

You can still see vaguely into some types of glass block windows at night. Although there won’t be clear definitions, passersby may still see shapes, shadows, and movement through the glass. If you want complete privacy, consider installing diamond glass block windows rather than the typical clear or wavy glass blocks.
