"Nick and Andy were amazing workers! Always on time and the fence they put up is amazing!, They worked with me on the gates for my dogs which were a little tougher due to the slant in my yard. I have had los of compliments on the fence too.. There was a time issue on getting the fencing n gates to my house but I blame Loweâ s for the supply issue. Nick was very honest and upfront with everything.. I really appreciated the communication . I definitely would recommend Hochstein Fence!"

Small jobs welcome

"Exceptional skills, work ethic and results. You can tell that doing quality work was a high priority. Found things wrong that other contractors missed, and fixed them at a very reasonable price. Am asking him to bid on more minor house repairs and looking forward to a long relationship. Highest possible rating ... this is the one you should pick. :-)"

Fencing questions, answered by experts

New homeowners in Sterling Heights should prioritize securing backyard perimeters for privacy and pet safety, especially if the property backs up to wooded areas. Inspect existing fences for winter damage or rot, common in Michigan’s climate, and repair as needed. Consider installing pool barriers if applicable, and select materials like vinyl or treated wood that withstand local weather patterns for lasting protection.

Helpful?

For minor fencing repairs in Sterling Heights, you can tighten loose fasteners, replace cracked pickets, and trim nearby shrubs to prevent moisture buildup. Wear gloves and a mask if working with older wood, as some fences may have lead-based paint. If you notice posts shifting due to saturated clay soil or frost heave, it’s wise to consult a local expert for lasting repairs.

Helpful?

To streamline your fencing project in Sterling Heights, schedule a property survey early and submit permit applications well in advance. Order materials ahead of time, especially during peak spring and summer months. Notify neighbors about your plans, arrange for old fence disposal, and secure pets during work. Factor in possible weather delays, as Michigan’s unpredictable climate can impact your timeline.

Helpful?

Before starting a fencing project in Sterling Heights, verify if your planned fence height or location requires a permit. Double-check your property boundaries to avoid disputes, and request utility marking several days ahead to prevent underground damage. Consider local soil conditions, which can be clay-heavy, and plan around Michigan’s freeze-thaw cycles by scheduling installation in milder months for best results.

Helpful?

Homeowners in Sterling Heights often balance weather-resistant materials against maintenance needs—composite and vinyl stand up to Michigan’s harsh winters but require a higher initial investment. Opting for taller privacy fences can offer seclusion but may impact neighbor relations. DIY installation can save money but risks non-compliance with local codes. Choosing materials suited for local soil and climate ensures long-term durability.
