"APO was amazing to work with. We definitely put their knowledge to the test. But no matter the question or hurdle we had inform of us they were there with answers or suggestions. I would highly recommend them to anyone. Plus they have a lot of connections with financial help if needed because we all know that septic systems are not cheap."

"They crushed and replaced 2 septic tanks. They were very easy to work with and the follow up was wonderful. They were in constant contact if any changes occurred with the project. Great Job Dave!"

"The technician emptied the freezer, which was in the basement, to work on the part that needed repair. Then he neglected to put anything back into the freezer, including a turkey I had bought for Christmas and a rack of ribs. Two days after he left, I went out of town for two weeks. The turkey actually exploded and spewed its liquid all over everything, which had to be discarded. I let AHS know and they couldn't even bother to call me or follow up on this. I'm considering not renewing my contract with them because of the quality (or lack thereof) of many of the providers they send."

"Kase did our new home inspection as well as the well/septic for the home we were selling. He was on time, professional and extremely pleasant to work with. When the VA needed some additional documents for our mortgage he got them right over to us (same day). And the owner and office manager were always friendly too. I would hire this company again and again."

Septic Tanks questions, answered by experts

A new water well pressure tank costs $300 to $500. If you choose to hire a plumber for the job, expect labor to cost $125 to $200. If the tank is difficult to access, labor will cost more. Diaphragm and bladder well pressure tanks have similar costs. One-compartment well pressure tanks are less costly, but they have a higher chance of waterlogging. Larger pressure tanks cost more and hold more water, but they don’t increase water pressure.

While abandoning a tank without treating it and following strict rules is illegal, there are several other ways to dispose of an old septic tank. One standard method is to pump out and crush the tank where it rests and bury it in the soil. Another is to remove it and transport it to a landfill. Finally, if abandonment is the best option, your contractor must pump out the tank and fill it with inert material, such as sand or concrete, depending on local regulations.

Buying a well drilling kit will save you money over hiring a professional. That said, digging a well is risky. If you make an error, you may have to get help fixing it. Also, the DIY costs are still pretty hefty when considering everything needed to complete the project successfully. You’ll need to account for the permit, pump, water tank, and more. If you don’t feel comfortable taking the necessary precautions to tackle this on your own, go with a pro.

You can check your own septic tank, but take precautions. Locate the access lid, usually buried a few inches underground, and remove it carefully. Look for the sludge and scum levels, and if they’re high, that means pumping may be necessary. Check for odors, slow drains, or pooling water around the drain field, which could indicate issues. Never enter the tank, as toxic gases can be fatal. All of that being said, a professional inspection is safer and more thorough.

For the most part, choosing between 30/50 psi and 40/60 psi is based on your water-pressure preference. However, it can also depend a little bit on your house—if you have older plumbing, a lower water pressure can be easier on the pipes (and a bit more gentle on your well pump).

The lower 30/50 pressure is usually enough for a single-story home, but you may want 40/60 if you have multiple stories, as the extra pressure helps water flow smoothly up to the second floor.
