"He shows up on bi-weekly on the agreed on day, he trims, mows the lawn and uses a blower to clean up the debris, all well and good. My only criticism is that he doesn't trim or mow the strip alongside a bridge barrier that runs along the front of my house on one side., and I noticed the blower didn't clean the paved walk in front of my front porch. Otherwise, I'd give him five stars across the board.."

Leaf Removal questions, answered by experts

By using PPE, sealing work areas, and following containment procedures.

If the lead paint is in a place that is not easily disturbed and is not flaking or deteriorating, you do not necessarily need to remove it. Lead is toxic when dust particles or flakes from peeling lead paint are ingested. If people are not in the area with the lead paint, it may be safe to leave it in place. You still may want to consider encapsulation with a paint formulated for covering lead-based paint, just for an added layer of protection.

Government regulations such as the EPA and OSHA govern lead removal procedures to ensure health and environmental safety during and after abatement.

The EPA enforces hazardous waste laws and ensures people dispose of their hazardous waste responsibly. Depending on where you live, your state’s hazardous waste regulatory agency may also enforce these laws. Individually, it’s up to each household to properly dispose of their hazardous waste.

You can paint over lead paint, or “encapsulate” it with a special paint that includes an ingredient called an encapsulant. The EPA approves encapsulation as a lead paint removal method as long as the paint remains undisturbed. Standard types of paint without an “encapsulant” from the big box stores or hardware stores do not meet EPA standards for remediation of lead-based paint.
