"Troy and his team were so wonderful throughout this entire process! Troy came out over a year ago to quote - he spent nearly 4 hours on my property making sure that he understood exactly what was going on with each of my buildings. He took several pictures and gave a very estimate. I had several other companies come out to provide quotes & they just simply weren't as thorough or kind. Troy continued to follow up and once we were able to budget for the project, he came out and made sure nothing had changed. Throughout the job he took TONS of pictures so I didn't have to go under the building to check it out. They were professional & very respectful of our business operations. I will have them back this summer to finish up some additional projects! HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY!"

Steelman Brothers Construction, LLC is owned and operated by, Randy Steelman. Randy’s love for building began at a young age while helping his grandfather build their family home. From that time forward Randy worked for commercial and private building companies in many capacities; large projects such as building dams and small detail oriented projects such as fine cabinetry. All of this experience offered Randy the ability to make his dream become a reality and in 2015 “Steelman Brothers Construction” was born. Not only does Randy get to do what he loves everyday but he also gets to teach his brothers and sons what his grandfather taught him. No job too big or too small. Call Randy and family!

"Owner and staff were friendly, flexible, went above and beyond to get things done when home owner wasn't able to do so, or assist. Owner was also helpful with ideas and product suggestions."

Concrete Finishing questions, answered by experts

Stamped concrete is durable, low-maintenance, and offers customizable designs that mimic stone or brick.

It’s possible to pour your own concrete slab and stamp it yourself, but we don’t recommend it. Pouring concrete is a relatively simple operation, but for larger projects, you’ll have to pay for concrete delivery anyway. From there, you’ll need to make sure you get the proper thickness to avoid cracking and sinking, and then you’ll need to work quickly to get the pattern stamped on the surface at the right time—too early, and the pattern may settle back down, but too late, and it won’t set at all. Leave the work to a concrete professional for the best results.

The ideal base for concrete is even, firm, and permeable to encourage drainage. Depending on your project's weight requirements, a combination of gravel, sand, or other aggregates is best. While you can technically pour concrete over grass, dirt, or an old piece of concrete, you risk threatening the concrete's stability.

When you don’t seal concrete, the colors and designs fade, water marks appear, and stains penetrate from the top layer to the lower layers, making them difficult to remove. Applying a sealant is strongly recommended for not only stamped concrete but any poured concrete. Speak with your concrete contractor about sealant options depending on the slab's intended use.

Unfortunately, concrete cracks happen, so there’s no surefire way to avoid them long-term. To slow down the cracking, apply a sealant every two to three years and use sand rather than salt to melt snow or ice. Using salt speeds up the freeze-thaw cycle, which may increase the likelihood of cracking. Additionally, keep vehicles and heavy machinery off of your concrete, as the weight can lead to more cracking.
