"Very personable, respectful, fair. He did not want to be paid until the job was completed and cleaned up, which was done very well. They were very professional. We will call them again if we have any arbor needs in the future."

"DPH Tree Services did an excellent job taking down six of our trees (one of which was 39" in diameter) and trimming away several high branches overhanging our house. They came when they said they would, did what they said they would do, and did it for the agreed upon price.....all with very minimal disturbance to our lawn, and then disposed of all trees, brush, and limbs. I highly recommend Dan and his team and will return to them for our future needs."

"Great communication on the timing of doing the job; thorough, personable, reliable. They removed a small tree and hauled a lot of brush and small limbs and branches already piled up. I’ll hire them again when needed!"

"I just hired Snyderâ s for the 3rd time to demolish a very old yard shed and prepare and level the site for new shed construction. If I could describe Snyderâ s in one word it would be Trustworthy. The work is excellent, the pricing is very fair, and Bob and his crew are friendly, efficient, and accommodating of all my requests. You will actually enjoy hiring them and be beyond satisfied with their work."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

No, you should never top maple trees. Topping injures the tree and leads to the rapid growth of a weak canopy, which can be hazardous to rooftops and utility lines. Removing the crown can also leave the interior bark vulnerable to sun damage, leading to insects and disease. A topped tree can also reduce property value and permanently damage the appearance of a tree.

Whether tree roots will continue to grow after a tree has been cut down depends on the species. Some tree roots will eventually die because they can no longer get nutrients through photosynthesis. However, other species that reproduce through root sprouts can continue to grow and produce new sprouts for seven years or more. For example, the roots of elms, ficus, and willows tend to regrow aggressively, while the roots of pines, oaks, and maples will typically die. To determine if a root system is still active, look for new sprouts on the old trunk, stump, or any exposed roots.

Tree trimming can count as landscaping, depending on how a landscaping business describes its services. Professional tree trimmers are more specialized than landscapers and offer trimming services separately from general landscaping.

When general landscaping companies offer tree trimming, look up the details. They usually mean shaping or seasonal trimming of ornamental trees, which is different from trimming larger trees for health or safety reasons. When possible, look for a licensed expert that specializes in trees and tree health.

Late August, September, and mid-October are the ideal months for planting a young tree. However, the best time to plant a tree ultimately depends on when the weather transitions to fall-like conditions and eventually winter frost. As long as the hottest days of summer have passed and the ground hasn’t frozen yet, you can still successfully plant trees.

Completely topping a plum tree is a risky business. Cut too much, and you’ll kill your tree. That said, you do need to trim the top of your tree to encourage bushy growth, maintain your tree’s vase shape, and limit size.

A plum tree's central leader (or trunk) should never extend more than 3 feet above the highest branch. When you first plant your tree, cut the central leader so it’s 2 to 3 feet tall. As it grows, cut it back 12 to 20 inches until it reaches its desired height. Never prune more than one-third of the new growth.
