"Great experience. They are knowledgeable, friendly, professional, and reasonable. They did exactly what I wanted done, and some of it was pretty tricky. I'd use them again in a heartbeat."

"Zach called within minutes of us reaching out to get these pesky oak stumps we’ve had for years in our lawn gone. Zach was very reasonable and had arrived within the day we set for him to begin work. He arrived and left within 2 hours, Zach even piled up the wood-chips all in the old stumps locations. My yard was covered in chips and with his blower it was back to normal. Highly recommend!"

"I had a large maple tree next to my house I needed to have removed. Earl came right out to look at it and gave me a quote I was happy with. Much less than another company who said they would need a crane that came with a ridiculous quote. Earl explained exactly what they'd do and even offered to trim some other trees. They showed up on time and before even setting things up, took steps to protect my house and property. I was amazed at how fast they were and in the end, did more than I had hoped for. My honest review is I'm happy I used Angies List and that Ruby's Tree Service responded. I have a tree in my backyard that will need to be removed next year and I can say Ruby's Tree Service will be my only call and anyone looking for tree service should definitly give them a call. Thank you Earl, Ruby and your sons."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Leaving the tree stump and letting it rot is never a good idea, as this leads to insect infestations and other frustrations. Additionally, decomposing trunks are at risk for diseases that spread out to the remaining plants and trees in the yard, thus ruining your whole outdoor aesthetic. It's usually best to remove the stump at the same time you remove the tree.

The average lifespan of an oak tree is 100 to 300 years, so long as it isn’t impacted by diseases like sudden oak death. Some species will last shorter or longer, depending on where you live.

It is possible to cut down a tree on your property yourself, but it is generally not recommended unless specific conditions are met. You should only consider this project if the tree is small (e.g., under 4-5 inches in diameter and short enough that you don't need a ladder to reach the branches), and you are experienced in handling a chainsaw. The tree must also be located far from any power lines, fences, homes, or other structures. Even for small trees, the work can be dangerous, and it's always advisable to have a spotter to ensure the tree falls correctly and no branches fall on you.

For any tree that is large, requires a ladder to access, or is near electrical lines or structures, you should always hire a professional. Attempting to remove a large tree yourself is extremely dangerous, poses a risk of serious injury, and could result in significant damage to your property.

Before any tree removal, it's also important to check your local and state regulations to ensure the tree is not historic or otherwise protected by your city.

Unless it’s dead or dangerous, think twice about cutting down a tree in your yard. They’re good for health, well-being, wildlife, and the environment. Plus, local authorities often have regulations prohibiting the removal of trees, especially protected species or individual trees with historical value.

If the roots are still alive, the dead tree will usually try to put out new shoots. That doesn’t mean the tree will survive or that the dead parts of a tree will come back to life. If parts of the tree have died and turned gray or rotten, nothing will bring them back to life and they need to be safely removed.
