"Zach took an odd job for me to move 7 yards of river rocks for my landscaping. After working his day job he came to our house, brought a friend and literally worked until he could no longer lift the wheelbarrow. He came back the next day to finish and he made sure every stone was in place. He was super polite and did an excellent job. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone."

"I WAS EXTREMELY HAPPY WITH THE RESULTS OF THEIR WORK. THEY DID A LARGE PAVER WALKWAY - DESIGNED IT AND EXECUTED IT IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. THEY ALSO DID LANDSCAPIING, GRASS REMOVAL AND TREE/SCHRUB REMOVAL. THE WORK WAS EXCELLENT AND CLEAN UP TOO!"

"Timing and communication was great and the work seems to be great. But I needed a Sewage Ejection Pump - Check Valve 3 in. installed. He told me it would be about $100.00 for the part so about $300.00.when he got done I was charged $398.00,beings the values are on the internet are for about $30.00, Not only was the price more , I feel the labor was pretty inflated $ 368.00 for labor is kinda high for such a small job."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Your contractor should handle dust control during the project. It's best to speak with your contractor beforehand to check if they plan to cover your furniture, protect your vents, or use fans to redirect dust. Eliminating drywall dust is a particularly large challenge during construction, so always take this into account during your planning phase.

Yes, you can excavate in the winter, but it might make the job harder. Frozen ground is harder to dig, and snow or ice can make the work site more hazardous. A contractor may need special equipment and techniques, such as ground-thawing methods, to break through frozen soil. Although winter excavation is possible, it may take longer and be more costly than excavating during warmer months.

Yes, an excavation company is the best option for land grading and yard leveling. General landscapers might be able to tackle these projects, but an excavation company will do a better job because they’re used to operating the necessary heavy machinery. Landscapers might opt to do the work manually, which takes much longer and could cost you more in labor fees. Finally, excavation companies will understand local regulations and know when you need permits to legalize the work, while a landscaper might not.

Hard soil could be a sign of overly dry dirt, either from poor drainage or drought. It's important to test the nutrient levels, density, and drainage capacity of your soil to see if it's absorbing water properly. Begin by adding a light layer of water and observing how long the soil retains moisture. If you experience a good deal of runoff, you may need to aerate your lawn, apply a wetting agent, or hire a professional for a closer look.

Because decomposed granite is a durable material, a crushed rock or gravel base is optional as long as the DG is properly installed and compacted. However, installing a base is a good idea because it will ensure proper drainage and stability and act as a weed suppressant (although you may still occasionally have to pull weeds). Installing an adequate base can also increase the durability of driveways and walkways. If you forego the paver base or gravel underneath, line the area with landscaping fabric to avoid weeds.
