"The team at functional floors was outstanding. Attention to detail was great and overall communication through the project was outstanding. I would recommend this company for any hardwood flooring project to all people I know."

"Very friendly, and went above and beyond what was required of them. We asked them if they could replace molding that had been damaged by my husband's wheelchair, and they were very willing to do that (another company we interviewed had said they only do floors). We were pressed for time before leaving on vacation, and they managed to get us in earlier than original scheduled date. Very helpful company!"

Customers say: Quick response

"Craig was amazing! He was on time, very respectful and very professional. He explained everything and made sure we understood the entire process. I was especially impressed with how quickly he was able to perfectly color match the floors to our kitchen and dining room. The quality of work was outstanding, and my floors look incredible. You can really tell he takes pride in what he does. HIGHLY recommend!!!"

"I hired Refloor to come back and do my basement too. The installation was delayed due to stock shortage but the floors are in and they are beautiful. I hired my own painter to stain the moldings to match the floors. The floors look so much like real wood. Great job!"

Customers say: Quality work

"After purchasing a new home in Dexter, MI, we hired Summit Construction to install a new hardwood floor in the master bedroom, and re-finish the floors in the rest of the first floor living area. Both jobs turned out fantastic and Jim was a pleasure to work with. He laid out options, made suggestions and the workmanship was flawless. Then "tragedy" struck, and part of the kitchen floor was ruined when the new water line to the refrigerator leaked. After advising us to wait several months for the sub-floor to dry out, Jim came out again and repaired the kitchen floor. You cannot see where the repaired area starts and stops - again, flawless workmanship. My highest recommendation goes to Summit Ridge Construction!"

"Workers were here 'sort of' on time. Job took a day or two longer than expected. New shower looks great. Shower floor is an issue. The floor is not solid, and takes some getting used to. Overall, we are happy with the new shower, but the floor needs to be addressed along with a chip in the floor ceramic tile, caused by workers."

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

Concrete flooring, particularly sealed concrete, is the lowest maintenance flooring available. It is affordable, durable, and can last more than 100 years if you seal it and care for it. Far from just being a boring gray, you can stain, stamp, and even paint concrete to match your style and decor. If concrete is not your thing, consider ceramic tile flooring. It is waterproof, stain resistant, and perfect for wet rooms like kitchens and bathrooms. Luxury vinyl tile also requires very little care; it is water and stain resistant, very durable, and affordable.

The most affordable kitchen flooring option is sheet vinyl due to its low material and installation costs, followed by laminate flooring and vinyl planks. Be sure to get quotes from flooring companies in your area for exact estimates for your kitchen floor. If you let them know that you’re looking for kitchen floor ideas on a budget, they can suggest products and materials within your price range.

Removing laminate flooring is fairly straightforward compared to removing other types of flooring. The planks click and lock into place, so you can pry them loose without much fuss. If you plan to reuse your flooring, you must be careful not to damage the plank or the locking mechanism that keeps it in place. If it’s in good condition, you can reuse it in another room.

Because cork flooring has a low-impact feel and is water-resistant, it is a good choice for kitchens. It makes standing to chop vegetables and stir soup for long periods of time feel much easier on your feet and legs. But keep in mind that spills can cause cork to swell if they sit for too long, so if you’re a messy home chef, keep plenty of towels nearby to keep your cork floors in good condition.

In most cases, you do not need to put padding or underlayment under carpet tiles. Unlike traditional carpet, which requires a separate pad, carpet tiles are designed to be installed directly onto a firm subfloor like plywood, concrete, or tile. Many carpet tiles come with a built-in underlay and attach with peel-and-stick adhesive, double-sided carpet tape, or glue. For a more comfortable, cushioned feel, especially in residential settings, you can opt for padded carpet tiles that have a thicker underlay attached. While it's generally not recommended to install a separate pad, a compact underlayment might be used in some situations, though this typically requires professional installation. An acoustic underlay may also be considered in commercial spaces or multi-level homes where noise reduction is a priority.
