We had roaches off and on for many months, despite a good cleaning regime etc., and eventually realized other units in our shared building had the same issues. "Absolutely Terrible and Lawn is dying with their services! We have been using them for 10 years. This year their applied services have ruined our lawn. Bloomfield manager came out finally and said,”Yep your lawn is needed up!” And the did it! Used to have best lawn in the neighborhood with sod and no weeds! Not anymore and the same services were performed by TrueGreen as previous years! We are going to post signs in our yard saying “Work performed by TrueGreen”!!! Scented mouse deterrents, like peppermint oil, can be effective in the short term. The pungent smells may temporarily repel mice, but they lose effectiveness as the scent fades or mice get used to it. While they can be part of a broader strategy, scented deterrents alone are rarely enough to eliminate a mouse problem.

You can easily find sprays that claim they are safe for pets and kids. However, we’d rather not use them in our own homes if we’re worried about pet safety: They still include pesticides and other chemicals, and are best avoided in any food prep areas like the kitchen, or any spots where children and pets may place. That’s why sprays didn’t end up in our suggestions for the safest options.

If the snakes in your yard are non-venomous species (like common Rat or Garter snakes), why not consider the live-and-let-live approach? Some benefits of not getting rid of snakes include:

  • They’re great at controlling disease-spreading rodent populations, including rats, mice, voles, and moles.

  • Some non-venomous species (like the common kingsnake) eat venomous species like rattlesnakes and copperheads.

  • Species like the garter snake keep down populations of garden pests like slugs and grasshoppers.

You can try using home remedies to help keep bats away. Some popular suggestions include substances with strong odors like peppermint oil, eucalyptus, cinnamon, cloves, and/or mint for a natural remedy. While evidence supporting this theory is limited, it may be worth trying in conjunction with other deterrence methods.

Exterminators can get rid of your current ant problem, but they won’t prevent ants from coming back. So it’s important to implement ant preventatives to avoid future infestations.

The primary reason ants enter your home is to find food. If they can’t find any, they won’t survive. So, the most effective way to prevent ant infestations is to clean, clean, and clean some more. 

Keep your kitchen sparkling and wash your dishes immediately (or at least give them a quick rinse and wash off leftover food). Take out your garbage and compost as often as possible and tightly seal all your kitchen containers, especially the mason jars you use to hold your sugar—sugar is gold to ants.

You can also hire a local handyperson to help you prevent future ant infestations. The handyman can seal cracks and fix leaks throughout your home, which will keep any ants from entering.
