"The estimate was done quickly and returned promptly. I also sought out other estimates. Some not prompt, essentially all the same cost. I went with Randy for his promptness and his ability to start my job in 4 days. They came in on time, worked the whole day and the next day. Living room, dining room ( open area) and a bedroom were done, walls and ceilings. Fireplace brick also painted and some plaster repair work done. Paint job looks great. I will definitely hire Referral Painting and Drywall again. Thanks Randy!"

Small jobs welcome

"I am not a fan of contractors. They show up when they want leave when they want and, in my experience, don’t care about the customer... Dino changed my opinion. If he says he will be there at 8- he’s in your driveway at 5 minutes to 8. He would show us the days accomplishments and tell us his plan for the next day. There were never any surprises. He is a man of his word and he takes great pride in his work. He is also incredibly creative. He worked with us and always gave sound advice and ideas. I truly loved having him in our home and I highly recommend them!"

"We could not be happier with this company. They did a remarkable job completing our large three car garage for us. Their tape and mudding skills were unbeatable. Two younger gentlemen started this company and they did an above average job for sure. We are keeping their number on hand for any future jobs we need and would not hesitate to refer them to anyone who asks. I highly recommend them for any project! Do not be afraid of how young they are… they know what they are doing for sure. I would give them more stars if I could!"

Hello,\n\nMy name is Adam, I hope that I can use some of the skills I've learned over the years to help make your life just a little bit easier. I grew up helping my dad build and fix a vast array of things both in our home and those of our friends and family. I am an engineer and have a knack for building and fixing and am hoping that I can put my skills to use to help those out in the community to the best of my ability. I appreciate getting the chance to meet you!

Plaster Repair questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can apply new plaster over an existing plaster surface, such as a wall or ceiling, provided the old plaster is in good condition. Before you begin, check the stability of the existing plaster. The surface must be clean, free of loose material, and have no peeling paint. It is also recommended to roughen the surface slightly to promote adhesion. For older plaster, applying a base coat like a PVA emulsion or a specific bonding agent or primer is crucial. This step makes the existing plaster less porous and ensures the new and old layers adhere properly for a smooth, long-lasting finish.

Yes, you can install drywall over plaster, but there are important factors to consider. While it can create a smooth, flat surface, it is often not the best approach. Installing drywall over plaster will increase the wall's thickness, which can cause issues with existing window and door frames that may no longer fit. You might also need to adjust power outlets to keep them accessible. A better, though more expensive, option is to remove the old plaster and lath entirely before installing new drywall. Drywalling directly over plaster seals in the old material, and if any problems arise later, you will need to remove both layers down to the structural beams for repairs. Given the potential complications, this job is best handled by professionals.

Plaster that sags or bulges, shows extensive deep cracks, or is crumbling from water damage or simply time may need replacement. Plaster walls can look a little “worn” for a long time before they need replacing. The only real way to know if it needs a replacement is to hire a professional to assess the condition of the plaster.

Although they are used for similar tasks, spackle and joint compound are not the same. Joint compound, also known as drywall mud, consists of limestone and gypsum and is primarily used for large-scale projects like taping and finishing seams on new drywall. Spackle is composed of gypsum and binding agents, making it a thicker compound best suited for small wall repairs like filling nail holes or cracks, as it dries quickly and is easy to sand. For small repairs, either product can be suitable. However, you can use joint compound for small jobs in place of spackle, but you cannot use spackle for large-scale taping and mudding projects.

Regular inspections and cleaning to prevent moisture or pest issues.
