"If I could give this locksmith 10 stars I would. He came to the rescue after a shady â locksmithâ with a similar name ripped me and my husband off. He fit us into his busy schedule, was highly competent and reasonably priced. He preformed the services we needed that the previous person had said couldnâ t even be done. He was extremely friendly and left us highly satisfied, we will definitely use his services again and will be recommending him to anyone needing a locksmith."

"Absolutely fantastic! EVERYONE in the family was more than pleased. Mike explained the process, costs and risks. He COMES TO YOU AT NO EXTRA FEE!! He quickly responded to our request and called back quickly. We explained the need for a family conference and when we decided to use him, he was at the house within an hour. He was polite, courteous, knowledgeable, quick and neat. Local Lock Smith is our recommendation. The first locksmith ( not from Angi) was useless!! Go with Angi and Mike from Local Lock Smith I!!"

"Jordan was very timely, worked efficiently, was super polite and was very fairly priced. He even recommended how I could save money on the project. I quoted another Locksmith on Angi and he tried to rip me off. I will use Jordan again."

"I'm so glad I went with Miller Lock & Door to help with door installation. I needed all interior doors replaced and Steve took care of everything, ie, measuring, buying, and picking up. Communication was great, he fit me in quickly, arrived exactly when he said he would, his prices are very fair, and most important, my new doors are perfect. Don't hesitate to hire Steve. I'm already planning on having him install a new entry door soon."

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

Proper door lock maintenance includes keeping the locking mechanism clean and clear of dirt, dust, and grime buildup, lubricating the lock annually, inspecting and tightening the lock regularly, and treating the door with care. If your maintenance reveals problems, it may be time to replace the lock or have a professional inspect it.

Yes, you should change the locks as soon as you can after completing the purchase of a house. This is a matter of privacy and security, as you have no idea how many copies of the keys the previous owner made. You can change the locks yourself or hire a pro to replace or rekey the lock, which costs $50 to $100.

A deadbolt differs from a regular lock in its design, construction, and security level. Regular locks are typically used for interior doors, such as for bedrooms and bathrooms, and provide minimal security. They are easy to install and use, often featuring a simple locking mechanism on the inside. In contrast, a deadbolt is one of the most secure locks you can install on an exterior door. Its internal construction is designed to withstand significant force, adding a crucial layer of security that can deter intruders. While deadbolts may be more expensive and complicated to install, they are cost-effective for the security they provide and are built to hold up to wear and tear.

Regrettably, entirely pick-proof locks don't exist unless you opt for keyless varieties. Locks advertised as "pick-proof" are, in reality, more resilient against lock-picking and bumping attempts because of complex mechanisms consisting of pins and sidebars. These locks work like this—they assign two tasks to the key, enhancing security by making unauthorized entry more challenging.

It is best to use a dry lubricant, such as a Teflon-based option, for door locks. Unlike popular oil-based lubricants, dry lubricants leave a non-stick, water-repellent coating that does not attract dust, dirt, and other debris. Using an oil-based lubricant can cause these particles to build up inside the lock, making it difficult to operate or even damaging the internal mechanism. You can find dry lubricants, some of which are made specifically for locks, at most hardware stores.
