A furnace is a big unit where gas, heating oil, or electricity heats the air. The warmed air is then pushed back out through ducts and vents.

If you hire a professional to replace your gas furnace’s thermocouple, you’ll usually pay between $150 and $250. Since thermocouples often fail due to a lack of maintenance, you may be able to avoid—or at least delay—a thermocouple replacement by taking good care of your furnace. This means scheduling annual furnace inspections, changing the filters at least once per season, and cleaning the burners occasionally.

Generally speaking, yes, turning one radiator off does save some money, especially if the system is a little older—so long as you’re not cranking up the dial on the ones you leave on. Both hydronic and electric hydronic heaters usually come with a higher price tag up front, but you can save more on energy costs over time compared to standard heaters. They also provide heat for a short time after the heater is actually turned off, making them more efficient. Additionally, standard convection heaters use electric coils to heat up the air, whereas hydronic heaters warm up water or oil which then heats the air.
