The shower was a three-piece unit. It was not fastened well to the studs and itself. The seams at each joint were pulling apart. The floor also cracked in spots and leaked into our basement. Jeff Griffin, the owner, came out to our house. He is the one who replaced the shower stall under warranty. However, the newest stall (number two of two) has cracked in the floor also! Other Home-Improvement people say the reason these stall are cracking...not being installed correctly! As of right now, Griffin said he can get another stall under warranty. But, would have to charge us for cost of labor. We both think the whole job should be covered by Jeff Griffin, he installed it. He should absorb the whole cost again, he's the owner of the Company! Since we are on a grinder-pump system he opened up the cap to check if it could be the problem. After checking how my toilets flushed he said he thought I should call our Drain Commission. He actually called them for me. Although I tried to pay for his trouble he wouldn't accept any money. His reasoning was that he hadn't brought any tools. This has only happened three times in my 45-years of owning a home, and each time the service was the very best. I will definitely refer all my friends to Countryside Plumbing, I'm glad I found his company on Angie's List. Within 30-minutes the men from our Drain Commission arrived and agreed that something was wrong. They checked the electrical system and found that a fuse for the grinder-pump had blown. If the fuse hadn't blown a warning light and sound would have gone off. Thanks to Angie's List and Countryside Plumbing I now can rest easy when my family comes to visit. (Bath is 12 feet x 16 feet, currently has jetted tub, shower, linen closet, double sinks and toilet has its own "room"). Counter tops are currently marbelite, mirrors are small and don't show well).
I pressed Dave re:ballpark for granite top, change out lights and current shower. Dave looked around, threw out figures for each of upgrades and said he'd be happy to do work if I wanted it done, but honestly didn't see anything that would stop a buyer. I chuckled. Thanked him for his honest opinion and evaluation. Best $49 I've spent in long time. Dave is just kind of contractor I'd love to do business with. Absolutely unprofessional. We hired them to do several jobs and although I work at The Home Depot and have knowledge I have a disability. So I hired them to do the work and expected them to come up with ideas to improve our homes curb appeal. We hired them to do work on a porch rail, street number sign, deck, garage door, and to correct the original builders mistakes on the front porch and the fascia trim etc. On the inside we hired them to tile the bath, install a tub/shower handle, a light in the closet, a bath fan and stairs.
We met with them and discussed the work. As for the street sign porch and staircase we discussed the fact that I didn't want what everyone else had, I could do that myself. I wanted ideas that only years of experience could come up with. I wanted the wow factor and although I do pretty well, I didn't want it to look like I did it so to speak. He assured me he would have some great idea's. He even suggested putting the slate tile above the mopboards. I thought that would have looked great. So we hired them I knew for the most part what materials were needed. We never got a list of materials needed. We called and made a final appointment with Dale the owner to come and finalize things. This was the Sunday before work was to be started. He did not show.
On Monday work began, the front rail was done very well, the light in the closet was good, although and opportunity for him to earn more occurred as the new fixture was smaller and the ceiling now needed painted. The bath fan was done well also.
We had paid 1000.00 half of the total to get things started. The next time the trim was put on but not stained and no room for the pergo we were putting in we had asked that space be left for the flooring to float under the trim. They put it down to the floor. The tile was not put above the trim either. They had tiled and did not use the tile board we had for them. This could be crucial to the life of the tile. We had also by accident bought the wrong grout, they went to the store and bought a different adhesive although we had bought some. So they bought different adhesive but used the wrong grout. They could have bought the right stuff since they had gone to the store anyway. I again work at Depot and could have brought home whatever was needed. So they grouted wrong and had several spots that had fallen out by the time I got home. They also left grout smeared on the walls, trim, plumbing and so forth absolutely no clean up. The trim had been stained but had not been polyurethane. They came back and took it up and although I put at least 6 coats on they had it done in 3 hours. They then put it at the height we asked them to do in the first place.
The garage door had been fixed but that only lasted a month. It does not open. The street sign we asked them to hard wire into the garage above the garage door and decorate with some sort of vinyl trim (they said they would come up with something cool) So we did not have the materials. They simply screwed in place and threw some batteries in it. The cost for that was $149.00 for five minutes of work. Also on the porch gable they just finished the unfinished portion from the builder. Two 6x5 pieces of vinyl trim. The cost of this is around 300.00 this was their idea of curb appeal.
When I contacted Dale is simply said "sorry were not up to your standards," I expected we will be back to do it right.
The staircase his "idea was the same door trim that everyone uses," So we never got those materials.
The back deck we bought restore deck stain and paint. We had two boards that I knew were in need of repair, I thought the experts would tell me they need replaced or they would just screw them down. the painted it with the restore and left them sticking up. They also painted some of our siding. We had started painting the railing white and had that paint. They used the stain that was for in between the boards on the railing. We now have blue railing, and they complain that we didn't have the paint for in between the boards, well not now they used it for the railing. I'm a terrible painter and can get it on the siding myself.
I finished the bath and keep finding issues. We thought the plumbing was done right. My son pulled the handle to turn on the shower, and the whole handle moved. they had globs of silicone on it, they did not put any pipe straps or clamps etc, to prevent the plumbing from moving. Also they requested another piece of trim to finish bath, on the side opposite the toilet. behind the toilet they pieced together the trim, figuring it would be hidden and I wouldn't notice. If I had to pick up an 8' piece of trim then it would have done both sides. They also tore the drywall and newly painted wall when they removed the trim.
I have contacted them and asked for 225.00 of the 1000.00 we paid. He gave me a story about not having the materials. We had what we knew was needed as for the rest we have it now except for the things he never gave us his great idea's for. It's 200+ dollars and although I cannot afford to loose it. I am able to give and honest account of this companies inconsistent and sloppy work. He has been rude with every communication as he has the money and now can run. I have also finished the lighted street sign and get many compliments on my work. The bottom line is if your hiring this company to do work you don't think you can do yourself, don't because a monkey could do the quality of work they do. Don't expect common courtesy, professionalism, or quality. They will ask for half up front and really don't care if they finish the work. Knowing that you will probably not pursue small claims. He even tells you his lawyers have been informed as if they would be in small claims court. So expect threats from them. I can be reaches at addylars@hotmail.com if you would like photo's or to see the e-mails as proof of our losses. I have photo's, e-mails and witness's.
These guys are great. They are family-owned, but have been around for 40 years. They are dependable, trustworthy and love to educate. I saw them installing a huge water treatment system at a local car wash. When they were done, the water coming out of the hoses was cleaner than what comes out...

It was the worst customer service experience I have ever had. When the company contacted me to set up an appointment time, I mentioned that I would not be able to be home for the plumber, but that my parents would be if that was okay. They said that would not be a problem so long as I left...

"High Road Construction provided me outstanding carpentry services, when I called them, to secure the sliding bath room and closet barn doors in my house. Their young carpente, Jack, arrived promptly the very next day, did excellent custom carpentry on my barn doors and kitcen cabinets and installed cedar planks to house the top rails on which the barn door wheels slide, Now they don't get derailed accidently by young children when they run into them. Jack was efficient, competent, friendly and helpful and did an excellent job at a fair price. Thank you Jack. I highly recommend him for custom carpentry services and I will be using him again whenever I have a need for carpentry services."

The best time of year to remodel your home is late winter and early spring when fewer homeowners are thinking about projects and pros are more available. Also consider the type of remodel you want and plan ahead as much as possible. For example, the summer is a great time of year to update your fireplace, but winter is a better option for fixing foundations and building room additions.
